Most college football analyst would agree that the SEC is the best conference in college football.  But what about within the SEC, which division is better?  Here is our breakdown to help decide which division is better, East or West.

#1 Florida vs #1 Alabama: This SEC Championship rematch will take place on October 2nd in Tuscaloosa.  It will feature the two best teams of the SEC, and the past two national champions.  Florida loses its Heisman Trophy winner, and Alabama returns theirs.  Alabama is too much for the Gators and should win, albeit not as comfortably as they did in December.

#2 Georgia vs#2 Arkansas: The battle of the #2′s takes place in Athens on September 18th.  Georgia is revamping their defense and changing to the 3-4, while also introducing their quarterback of the future.  Arkansas returns one of the best offenses in the nation, and will try to improve its defense after an embarrassing 2009.  Arkansas wins this game, but Georgia will show why they will challenge Florida for best in the East.

#3 South Carolina vs #3 Auburn: September 25th in Auburn will decide which division has the better #3 team.  Auburn has a quarterback that can effectively run the spread, although he hasn’t thrown an SEC pass in two years.  South Carolina finally has a legitimate #1 back, Marcus Lattimore, that should help solidify their offense.  Auburn should win the game in late September, and keep the West 3-0.

#4 Kentucky vs #4 LSU: Kentucky fans are still trying to erase the infamous hail mary pass that cost them the game back in 2002.  Unfortunately for Kentucky, if this game was played LSU would not need a last second miracle to defeat the Wildcats.  LSU has a lot of question marks, returning only 9 starters and an unimpressive quarterback battle, but should have enough to defeat Kentucky.  Joker Phillips is an exciting young coach, but will not be able to pull of this upset.

#5 Tennessee vs #5 Ole Miss: This game features two of the better tailgating atmosphere’s, in The Grove and Neyland Stadium.  UT has a new coach and is at the beginning of a rebuilding stage, and Ole Miss lost quite a few of its starters (including Jevan Sneed, who told him to go pro?).  This game will be decided November 13th, where Neyland Stadium and all 108,000 Volunteer fans will witness Derek Dooley get his first SEC victory.

#6 Vanderbilt vs #6 Mississippi St: Fortunately, this game will not be played in 2010.  Vanderbilt returns many starters from a bad team, but features one of the best SEC defenders in Chris Marve.  MSU is a team that could be respectable in a few years with Dan Mullen as the Head Coach.  Mississippi St has too many holes to fill, and Vanderbilt wins this battle for the last place in the SEC.

Overall Winner: The West (4-2) is clearly the better division in the SEC for 2010.

Simply don’t see how you can have Vanderbilt defeating Miss State. Not just because I’m a Bulldog fan, but a realist at the same time. We beat Vandy last year with a much less experienced and less talented team than we have returning this year. Miss State is definitely not the worst in the SEC by no means. They should be atop Tennessee, Kentucky, TSUN, Vandy, and possibly others by the end of the season.

I went over the last one again and i believe i have made a mistake. I didn’t realize that you had vandy last in the SEC. My apologies. I still hold true to Miss State being above Kentucky, Tennessee, TSUN, and Vandy in the SEC standings though. Possibly above AUBY and UGA also but we’ll have to see how that pans out in the coming weeks. I’m not going to get too drastic with it.
