Five SEC Players You Need To Watch

Five SEC Players You Need To Watch

NEW: Discuss this topic in the Google+ community for SEC fans.

There are SEC studs that most of the nation and fans in the south know about such as Cam Newton, Mark Ingram, AJ Green, Marcus Lattimore, etc.  Then there are SEC studs that don’t get the same level of attention but are doing big things on the field in 2010.  We want to introduce you to some of them today.

Linebacker Justin Houston (Georgia Bulldogs)

Justin Houstin is a 6-3, 258 pound linebacker from Statesboro, Ga who is doing some great things on the field this season.  Houston was recently named the SEC defensive player of the week for his performance in the Kentucky game.  Houston has 40 tackles this season (14 of which are for a loss) and leads the SEC with 8.5 sacks.  Be sure to watch Houston do his thing against the Gators this Saturday.

Ole Miss Running Back Brandon Bolden

Running Back Brandon Bolden (Ole Miss Rebels)

Brandon Bolden is a 5-11, 215 pound running back from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Despite the rough win/loss record for Ole Miss, Bolden is doing big things for their offense.  Bolden currently has 559 yards on 97 carries (averaging 5.8 yards per carry) including a 71 yard run.  He has 5 rushing touchdowns.  Furthermore, Bolden has 187 yards receiving including two receiving touchdowns.

Defensive Tackle Nick Fairley (Auburn Tigers)

Nick Fairley is a 6-5, 298 pound defensive tackle from Mobile, Alabama.  Despite not being known for their defense (thank Cam Newton), Auburn has a stud DT in Nick Fairley.  Fairley has 8 sacks on the year.  Auburn will need Fairley to keep up his dominant play if they expect to run the table.

Wide Receiver Joe Adams (Arkansas Razorbacks)

Joe Adams is a 5-11, 190 pound wide receiver from Little Rock, Arkansas.  Talented QB Ryan Mallett gets most of the attention from the Arkansas offense but as we mentioned a few weeks ago, Joe Adams is a big time athlete doing great stuff on the field.  Adams has 544 yards receiving with 4 touchdowns.  He also has a touchdown on a kick return.

Running Back Vick Ballard (Mississippi State Bulldogs)

Vick Ballard is a 5-11, 215 pound running back from Pascagoula, Mississippi.  Dan Mullen has the Bulldogs playing well and ranked on the national scene for the first time in a while and Vick Ballard is a big reason for it.  Ballard has 516 yards on the ground with 11 touchdowns.  He also has a receiving touchdown for 12 total scores.

ESPN has justin houston at 9 sacks, even though the sack total adds up to 10. CFBstats has him at 9.5, not 8.5.
