Five Things You Need To Know About Georgia vs. UL-Lafayette
Georgia starts off their 2010 season against Louisiana-Lafayette (UL-Lafayette). The game doesn’t offer too much excitement except for the fact that the Dawgs are out on the field and the debut of heralded Quarterback Aaron Murray. The game likely won’t be too competitive, but you can bet that fans will be quick to critique the Georgia squad during this game as they jump right into SEC play against South Carolina the next week.
Here are five things to know about this matchup:
- UL-Lafayette was 6-6 last year. Their 6 wins really came from very mediocre wins. The only decent program in there that they beat was Kansas State if you can in fact, call that a football program. Regardless, UL-Lafayette should have a tough time starting off 2010 against the Bulldogs.
- Georgia’s first three games are all noon games. These will be very hot games and Georgia should definitely do their best to rotate their guys in and out as much as possible to keep their boys fresh through this stretch. The next games are against South Carolina and Arkansas, so Georgia will not be able to rotate in backups as much during the next two, very tough, SEC opponents. Side note: Georgia has a pretty tough schedule this year.
- The only ranked team Georgia beat last year was in-state rival Georgia Tech (#7). They lost to Oklahoma St., Florida, and LSU.
- Georgia won 4 out of the last 5 games to finish 2009 winning against Tennessee Tech, Auburn, Georgia Tech, and Texas A&M. The one loss? Kentucky. Ouch.
- Aaron Murray gets his first start this week for the Georgia Bulldogs and the fans are excited. Look for Murray to have a good game to start his career which is sure to start the “we can win the east” chatter. I can already hear the debate starting about which SEC East QB is better: Brantley or Murray. Let the fun begin!

Yes, the debate between Brantley or Murray will start next Saturday. UF plays a horrible Miami team; and they’ll probably score at least 60 on them. So, Brantley’s stats will look extremely good against a very poor team. We have to consider the opponents for each team. I don’t care what the stats reveal….just win Dawgs!!!!!
