Football Games In Baseball Stadiums
College football returns to MLB parks this weekend with the Notre Dame – Army game in Yankee stadium and Northwestern vs Illinois game in Wrigley field. It’s sort of cool and sort of weird, to be honest.
What’s next? SEC game at Turner Field? Doubtful.
Maybe Notre Dame, Army, Northwestern and Illinois need some other things like a baseball stadium to get fans jazzed up. Not really needed in the south.
Here’s the pic of Wrigley field ready for football:

Seeing as Army and Notre Dame have had a history of playing at Yankee Stadium it’s not really that weird. They started using Yankee stadium at the beginning of the 20th century I think and it was because neither Army nor Notre Dame had big enough stadiums to hold everyone. This was back when both Army and Notre Dame were legit and this game usually decide who would be the national champion.
It’s not a fair comparison considering the South doesn’t have the premiere MLB stadiums. Nine states make up the SEC, only two of them, Florida and Georgia have stadiums. One of them is in Miami, not SEC country, and that team plays in a football stadium anyway. The Trop is hideous and Turner Field is average. So the Big Ten and other conferences do it because they have a great venue to go to, not an option in the South.
I’m wondering since the Big 10 has these venues, that teams like Wisconsin is going to play at Miller Park.
Miller park has a bigger outfield than Wrigley. Chicago Bears used to play at Wrigley. When they played there, the football field was left field to first base line. This configuration is right field to third base line.
