Georgia’s Ecdawg Responds To Gator Letter

Hey Robert,

That was an interesting letter you wrote to the staff of Saturday Down South. I like to read the opinions of Florida fans because of their historical perspective. Most denizens of Baja Georgia have a grasp of FU football history roughly equivalent to the 37.5 minutes since they arrived from southern Indiana with a freshly minted customer service representative certificate of attendance for Corn County Community College and Correctional Institute. You, however, obviously received a full diploma. I’m betting that “obvious” was the one vocabulary word from the final open-book exam that you remember.

It is amazing to find a FU fan who remembers all the way back to the Zook era. It has to be difficult for you to grasp this but if UGA continues to lose to FU for the next 10 years at the same rate as the last 20 FU will have made a series of it and drawn even. I’ll restate. FU sucked for so long it has taken an unbelievable win streak to make the record respectable. All you have to fear is regression to the mean (you probably didn’t get to that in remedial math at CCCC & CI). Let me try again: FU was terrible – got pretty good – will return to terrible.

I had no problem with your mutterings until you mentioned Uga. There is simply no comparison between the noble Uga and a cold-blooded, slithering reptile. Why don’t you actually have one of the vile creatures at your aptly named stadium – the swamp indeed. LSU has a tiger. Auburn has the eagle. FU has a dude in a costume. Why is that? Could it be that no one, including FU fans, actually wants a disgusting reptile nearby? Alligators are best when left to skulk about with the sand fleas or when turned into handsome luggage or delicious snacks.

Sincerely,

ecdawg

Yeah, I’m outta there. That place stinks and gator tastes like chicken.

  2. CSA says:

No Florida fans want to remember what their program was like more than 20 years ago, they were that bad. Sure, they fielded decent teams every few years, but they were pretty pitiful. What makes it worse is that so many Florida fans are bandwagon fans, and don’t even remember any quarterbacks before Chris Leak.

  3. Kevin says:

My parents were UF grads during those years. the 1-10 years. They are thrilled with the recent (see: since Spurrier) success of the program but they don’t lose sight that UF only came on the scene in that era. Some fans are still grounded but the bandwagon people have no idea about history. It’s the same for bandwagon fans across all sports.

Whatever happened to good sportsmanship? There is only two types of people, Bulldogs, and those who wish they were!! :)

    @ Kevin,
Thank you for being a true Florida fan. I’m a Georgia fan from a family that has members who root for Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, AND Auburn (so Saturdays in the Fall are intresting) and in a situation like that you really leanr to respect SEC history and tradition. Though I personally strongly hate the Gator program, I DON’T hate real Florida fans who know their stuff and are honest. Real fans are the only ones who should be permited to talk smack. I’ve moved to DC for school and up here recently after Bama’s championship there is a HUGE number of bandwagon fans. I take plenty of time out of my day to call out each and every one I see. Real fans are the ones who make football, and especially rivalries, great.
On another note, Georgia fan’s shouldn’t get too upset over the preseason rankings. Everybody knows that until the BSC rankings come out their just a popularity contest.

I have been following Gator football since 1949 and am fully aware of the overall record between UG and UF. However, since throughout my lifetime (now approaching 70 years) the Gators hold the edge, I could not possibly care less what happened during the leather helmet era. If the Georgia fans are happy with dominance in the early 20th century, good for them.

  7. NewbombTurk says:

Someone remind D.O. Jenkins that 1949 WAS the leather helmet era.
I don’t care how many games the Gators win; Florida fans are atrociously arrogant and wear that ugly orange. Athens is one of the most quaint attractive cities in the south, while Gainesville isn’t much more than asphalt and sand. By the way, I grew up in Gainesville. I love the place, but it doesn’t compare to Athens.
