It’s understood that Ole Miss is known for its beautiful campus, pretty ladies and southern charm. It is also understood that Ole Miss is not the most highly achieving academic institution.

There is an NCAA rule allowing a player to transfer Division 1 schools and not sit out or miss a season. The tricky rule explains that if a player graduates and chooses to enroll in a graduate program that his current University does not have, he may transfer and be allowed to play immediately. This is a legit rule, some people obviously bend it a little bit, but it’s generally not frowned upon. Let’s add to this mix a player who has been arrested multiple times for theft, and even more recently for drug possession. Enter Jeremiah Masoli: the star quarterback for the Oregon Ducks, a 2009 pre-season Heisman Trophy candidate. The senior quarterback was dismissed from the program this off-season after multiple run-ins with the law. Obviously Coach Chip Kelly would not ask his star player to leave if the player was even close to innocent.

I am assuming Masoli did not grow up with dreams of studying Agriculture or Mississippi History? He has officially been accepted into the “Ole Miss Graduate School” this week. I am very interested to see what program Masoli chooses, and when the official deadline was for applying to that specific program.

Ole Miss Head Coach Houston Nutt sure is reaching on this one, (probably because he read Kyle Buffolino’s arguments for Masoli). Last year he took a chance on ex-Florida Gator Jamar Hornsby, giving him a chance with the Rebels after being charged with the fraudulent use of a dead Florida student’s credit card. Hornsby never played a down for Ole Miss. Masoli, being a much bigger name, and larger national news story, will for sure be a high risk/high reward option for Coach Nutt. This story very much reveals that Nutt and the Ole Miss administration will do whatever it takes to be successful on the football field.

Congratulations to Jeremiah Masoli for having the opportunity to play in the SEC, but he is going to incredibly let down by his choice of colors and jerseys in Oxford. Coming from Oregon, he never wore the same combination of helmet, jersey and pants during his career. Let’s compare his game day options at Oregon to his options at Ole Miss:

Ole Miss 2009 Game Day Jersey Options:
The baggy, “old-school” look is in at Ole Miss. The jerseys remind us of the days of Archie Manning, and will slow our athletes down to 35% of their top speed. “We have a total of 3 options, giving our players an incredible excitement when they can surprise Rebel-Nation with the electric red jersey!”

Helmet(s): 1 – Navy
Jersey(s): 3 – Navy, White, and Red
Pant(s): 1 – Grey

Oregon 2009 Game Day Jersey Options:
The uniforms are 25% lighter and have a more “shrink-wrapped fit.” The jerseys alone have been reduced from 7.46 ounces to 5.5. And of course, in keeping with past years, the Oregon Ducks players had a great deal of input on what would and would not go into the 2009’s new Oregon Ducks football uniforms. All in all, the players will have 80 different uniform combinations to choose from each Saturday.

Helmet(s): 7 – Green, White, Yellow, Throwback Yellow, Gold, Matte black, and “Steel” (a carbon-dipped helmet)
Jersey(s): 5 – Green, White with silver wings, White with green wings, Yellow, and Black
Pant(s): 5 – Green, Black, Silver, Yellow, and White

More bad reporting, poorly written article, maybe you should get your facts straight on Masoli. He was never arrested unlike your article says. Maybe Masoli should add you to his website, http://www.jeremiahmasoli.net/media-mistakes/ media misakes on Jeremiah Masoli. Get your facts straight reporter. Ole Miss is known as the Harvard of the South, they have t shirts that prove it, fine academic institution it is. The Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue are much more classy than those Puke Yellow collors that Nike is sponsoring. Here is the truth about Masoli….. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/ncaa/07/27/masoli/

Just saying, Ole Miss doesn’t have an Agriculture program. You have to go down the road to Starkville for that.

[...] if Masoli can get cleared to play in time for the opener and just how he will fair this year in a different colored uniform.  The worst that can happen will be if Masoli has to sit this year out and play next [...]
