It’s getting to be that time when the talking heads start speculating on the potential players that will be first round draft picks. It’s all a crap shoot right now, but Mel Kiper’s latest big board projections have SEC flavor and that guy Cam Newton in the top 10.

Here is Kiper’s latest top 25:

1. Andrew Luck – Stanford
2. Da’Quan Bowers – Clemson
3. AJ Green – Georgia
4. Patrick Peterson – LSU
5. Prince Amukamara – Nebraska
6. Nick Fairley – Auburn
7. Ryan Mallett – Arkansas
8. Cam Newton – Auburn
9. Julio Jones – Alabama
10. Marcell Dareus – Alabama
11. Robert Quinn – North Carolina
12. Ryan Kerrigan – Purdue
13. Von Miller – Texas A&M
14. Justin Blackmon – Oklahoma State
15. Akeem Ayers – UCLA
16. Drake Nevis – LSU
17. Nate Solder – Colorado
18. Anthony Castonzo – Boston College
19. Adrian Clayborn – Iowa
20. Derek Sherrod – Mississippi State
21. Gabe Carimi – Wisconsin
22. Mark Ingram – Alabama
23. Jake Locker – Washington
24. Rahim Moore – UCLA
25. Joe Baldwin – Pittsburgh

Sorry, but the SEC dominates this list. Seven of the top 10 players and 10 of the top 25 players are from the SEC. Incredible when you think about it. The other conferences can’t hold the SEC’s jock strap looking at this list.

Which one of these players would you build your team around?

  1. Hop2It says:

So this was supposed to be a down year for the SEC. Kind of comical when you consider that 40% of the first round talent is from the SEC. Even more comical when the talent is coming from just six schools.

  2. Shannon says:

I would build my team around Cam Newton….great leader and helped lead the Auburn Tigers to an undefeated season. It is absolutely amazing to me that I hear people claim that the SEC can’t hold a flame to some of the other divisions, yet by looking at this list and others like it one can clearly see the talent that comes from the south.

    • Howard says:

For all his abilities, I don’t think I would ever build an offense around a QB with a physical style that will translate into injuries. It may well be that Cam Newton can do for some team what Michael Vick is doing for the Eagles, but when he gets injured (Romo, Favre, Rogers) it’s a sure bet his replacement could not play the same style of offense.

  3. richard says:

My fellow SEC Brethern, do we not know of what we speak when we make the BOLD BUT TRUE statement that we are the best conference in college ball. Look at the talent that will go in the 1st round of the draft from our schools. WE ARE #1!!!!!!!

  4. AUCamFan says:

10 SEC players in the bunch. Half of which are from the State of Alabama. 2 AU and 3 Bama. – am still praying that Cam will stay one more year at AU. WDE!

  5. richard says:

i would like for Cam to go to Minnesota!!!! Dallas stay away, jerry don’t deserve a qb like him.

    • Christopher D says:

Dallas doesn’t want Cam Newton and anybody that drafts him will regret it. I see Jamarcus Russell all over this guy. great college QB that cant get a grasp on a pro-style offense.

      • Johnny Smith says:

Christopher, Jamarcus Russell was nothing like Cam Newton when he was in college. Newton is more of a Dante Culpepper style QB, but with more speed and better moves in the open field.

        • Dave WPS says:

Plus, in “seeing Jamarcus Russell all over this guy”, what you’re essentially saying is that Cam Newton won’t work at his game. You’re saying he won’t put in the work it takes to even be a decent professional QB. Remember that Russell didn’t ultimately fail because he wasn’t that good: he failed because he didn’t work to make himself better. For some reason, I don’t see Cam following that path.

        • Jacob says:

What a dumb comment. Go look at a pic of Cam. The guy looks like they could have sculpted the statue of David with his body. The guy has as close to 0% body fat. Russell was a bit of a porker at LSU and he has eaten his way out of the NFL. You literaly comparing Rosie O’donald to Jessica Alba just because they are both tall and black QBs.

  6. richard says:

what can we say!!!!! we have the best conference, the best football programs, the best tailgating, the best bbq and suds, and last but not least the HOTTEST DAMN WOMEN in college ball. bar none!!!!

  7. David Pickering says:

NINE of those 25 come from the SEC WEST — the 2nd best division in football, behind the AFC East.

  8. Jesse T says:

I gotta say, my favorite part is no tOSU players in there. Gonna suck to finally lose Mallet. Wilson looked good though.

  9. Ryan says:

The U has retired from the first round…maybe they can hire Aidsazzio or RonZook

  10. Ben says:

I would definitely build around Ryan Mallet. He’s the prototypical NFL quarterback. He has a cannon, and is really tall. He’ll have the most success out of all of the quarterbacks in this year’s draft.

  11. MARK OKELLEY says:

I AM ALL FOR THE SEC….BUT WHERE DOES ALL THIS BIG TALK AND BRAGGING ABOUT WHO IS THE BEST TAKE US??? DOES IT MAKE THE THE FANS FEEL THEY ARE SOMEHOW INVOLVED MORE IN THE SUCCESS, IF THEY ACT LIKE CONCEITED, BIG HEADED. BAD SPORTS, SPOILED BRATS ?? OUR SOCIETY AND VALUES ARE WAY TOO ME ME ME ….LOOK AT ME…I AM # 1….I AM # ONE…..WHERE DOES THAT ATTITUDE TAKE US IN THE GAME OF LIFE ?? BIG BIZ HAS TAKEN OVER…THE JOY….. OF JUST COMPETING…………WHAT R WE SAYING ABOUT THE MAJORITY THAT R NOT # 1…..R WE ALL JUST WORTHLESS LOSERS ?? I THINK NOT…………….BUILD A TEAM ON CHARACTER….NOT INDIVIDUALS…..

  12. War Eagle says:

have all of you heard about the NFL lockout? i see juniors on this list! What Junior is stupid enough to leave college to go to the unemployment line? The Lock out will happen. There will be very few Juniors leaving for the draft this year.

  13. taylor says:

plz God plz let a mississippi state(derek sherod hopefuly) go in the first round

  14. taylor says:

i think they shuld just move the SEC into the NFL seance nowbody can keep up wiht us in college(joke we would get a big butt woppen in the nfl)
