Mike Leach Interviewing With Maryland… Malzahn Waits

The Washington Post is reporting that Mike Leach is interviewing with Maryland on Thursday.  Maryland’s decision on Leach is extremely important to Auburn fans, because that decision could decide whether or not Gus Malzahn is at Auburn next year.

According to a source close to the situation, Leach is the frontrunner, but if Maryland feels that he brings to much baggage from the past incidents (Craig James’ Son), Malzahn is next in line for the job.  Malzahn has already interviewed, and Maryland was very impressed to say the least.

I think Mike Leach’s former success as a head coach, and his close friendship with Kevin Plank, a Maryland alum, board member and owner of Under Armour, will almost ascertain that he’ll be Maryland’s new head coach before the end of the year.

Remember when a bigger-than-life, boastful, mad-man (Lefty) took over as B-Ball Coach? He sold huge amounts of tickets and raised our program to national prominence. I think Leach could do the same for our football program!

Leach is a bit of a know it all, and according to my source, if there is any trouble at all with Leach, they will go with Gus.

I’d hate to lose Coach Malzahn, but if he’s offered the Maryland job, I believe he’s gone. Even if Leach gets the Maryland job, it’s only a matter of time before Malzahn gets the next offer. I think Maryland or a team like that is more in line with the type of job Coach Malzahn means when he says he’s not impatient, and is willing to wait for the right opportunity. At Maryland, he’d have a chance to bring in top recruits, and playing in the ACC, his teams could compete early on for conference championships and BCS bowl games.
