2010 SEC East Odds – Florida Still Heavily Favored
The following post is a guest post supplied by the folks over at BetVega.com
The Florida Gators have dominated the SEC East for a number of years, but could that all change this year? Today, we are looking at the NCAA football betting lines in this very powerful division.
Odds to Win SEC East:
1. Florida Gators +115
2. Georgia Bulldogs +300
3. South Carolina Gamecocks +300
4. Tennessee Volunteers +400
5. Kentucky Wildcats +1000
6. Vanderbilt Commodores +2500
The Favorite: Florida Gators (+115 odds to win SEC East)
QB Tim Tebow might be gone, but the Gators are still the class of the SEC East this year. QB John Brantley was recruited as one of the best pure passing quarterbacks in the nation three years ago, and he could immediately become a legit Heisman Trophy candidate if HC Urban Meyer lets him come out firing this year.
A number of the offensive weapons have been replaced, but Florida is always one of the deepest teams in the country. RBs Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey are going to be powers once again for the blue and orange, as both averaged over 6.5 yards per carry a year ago.
Defensively, overcoming the losses of three NFLers is going to be difficult, but again, we all know Florida doesn’t rebuild, it reloads.
There are only three legitimate road games in conference with trips to Tennessee, Alabama, and Vanderbilt, as the Cocktail Party against Georgia is always played in the pro-Florida “neutral site” in Jacksonville. If anyone aside from the Tide trips this team up though, the SEC East could suddenly become wide open.
The Best Sleeper Odds: South Carolina Gamecocks (+300 odds to win SEC East)
Yes, the Gamecocks have to travel to Gainesville this year, and the Ol’ Ball Coach, HC Steve Spurrier has yet to beat his former mates, but the rest of this schedule is manageable. The hardest games, outside of Florida, all come at home, as Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee all head to Columbia.
QB Stephen Garcia threw for 2,862 yards and 17 TDs under center for Spurrier last year, and he still has a lot of hope for a great final season. As is always the case with a Spurrier coached offense, a ton of different players touched the football in ’09. Four receivers caught at least 30 passes and another four caught at least 14. The majority of the ‘O’ is returning, which should result in better output than last season’s woeful 20.6 points per game average.
Defensively though, the Gamecocks are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the SEC East. The team ranked 15th overall in defense last year at 300.7 yards per game and averaged allowing just 20.4 points per game.
There were some rough stretches last season, but holding Ole Miss to ten points, Vanderbilt to ten points, and Florida to 24 points was quite impressive. With duplicated efforts this season, the Gamecocks are going to be game to challenge for the SEC East title, and at +300, we see tremendous value. Don’t be afraid to back Spurrier for his first SEC conference crown since his days in Gainesville.

At +300 I think South Carolina is doing pretty well. We’ve yet to pull it all together, but this may just be the year – if we can pay up our hotel bills.
Oh, and just by the wayside, Spurrier has beaten Florida while at USC – just not in the swamp.
UK pulls the upsets off in SC and at Knoxville and ends up 2nd in East. Unless Joker somehow channels God Himself and beats Florida to win the whole thing. But it does not matter……Bama walks away with the whole shooting match in the end. And, Cats get a post New Years Bowl for the first time in memorable history.
