SEC Goes 10-2 In Week 1; Ole Miss Upset
Week 1 is complete except for Monday’s Boise vs Virginia Tech game. The Southeastern Conference football teams finished the week 10-2 with Vanderbilt losing to Northwestern and Ole Miss upset by Jacksonville St. The Ole Miss double-overtime upset was indeed crazy and a huge upset – devastating for Ole Miss fans.
We will have individual game recaps and thoughts shortly here at Saturday Down South, but for now, here are a few thoughts on the weekend:
- The SEC as a whole did not look good – we will get into this in another article shortly
- Might Georgia be considered the SEC front runner?
- LSU is lucky to have won the UNC game
As for the other conferences, the Big East has to be disappointed that their two big football teams both lost (UConn & Pitt). On the flip side, the Big 10 is likely to be riding high with lots of acclaim with a good victory by Michigan over UConn and obviously Ohio State is high on people’s minds.
More details on individual games coming… Good to have football back.

As a Georgia fan, I love the idea of the Bulldogs being “top dog,” so to speak. Most of the SEC games were rather unconvincing wins. I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about Florida’s sloppy play, I guess all the nuthuggers are under the belief that the lackluster performance will be fixed.
Georgia and Alabama played very consistent, complete games. But that doesn’t mean they other teams aren’t going to make improvements and be more competitive. It will certainly be an interesting season down the stretch.
