While the SEC schedule this weekend was somewhat light, there were some big events around the country in college football.  Have a miserable wedding you were obligated to attend this weekend?  Don’t sweat it, we got you covered with the big key takeaways from this weekend so you don’t look like a buffoon on Monday at work.

1.  The ACC - Let’s start with the ACC.  Yes, I’m being serious.  Virginia Tech took down Miami this weekend and remains undefeated in ACC play.  Why is this interesting?  Because we’re on track for the ACC champion to have lost to Boise State and James Madison University in the same year as winning the ACC.  Do you understand how much fodder that supplies against your ACC fans?  It’s great.

2. The Big Ten – The top three teams in the Big Ten all won this week.  Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan State all have one loss and all won this weekend.  With three teams tied in the conference, the tie breaker is determined by BCS standings.  Wisconsin is the top ranked in the BCS but Ohio State has the potential to jump them.  Big Ten fans will be watching the BCS rankings each week closely.

3. Pac-10 – Stanford smoked California and probably secured a BCS at-large pick for the team.  Look for big programs around the country to throw money at coach Harbaugh.  He might be the hottest coach right now in CFB.

4. Baseball Stadiums – Two games happened in baseball stadiums on Saturday, one at Wrigley Field and one at Yankee Stadium.  Notre Dame beat Army in Yankee Stadium and the Zooker and Illinois beat Northwestern at Wrigley.

5. LSU – LSU held off a tough Ole Miss team on Saturday to keep their BCS hopes alive.  Ole Miss showed the country why even the down teams in the SEC can show up one week and make an opposing team miserable.  LSU made the plays to stay ahead and win the game.  The Tigers are now 10-1.

6. Big-12 – In the Big 12, two major wins to mention… Texas A&M knocked off Nebraska in a miserable game to watch (final score of 9-6 – 5 field goals) and Oklahoma State beat up Kansas to get to a 10-1 record.

Denard Robinson 1500 Record

Denard Robinson Is The First Player In NCAA History To Run For 1500 and Pass For 1500.

7. Denard – Michigan QB Denard Robinson became the first quarterback in NCAA history to run for 1,500 yards and pass for 1,500 yards in the same season.  Cam Newton could become the second as he currently has 2038 passing yards and 1297 rushing yards.   How do they compare in touchdowns?  Newton has 21 passing and 17 rushing.  Robinson has 16 passing and 14 rushing.  What’s keeping Robinson from Heisman talk?  Probably Michigan’s 7-4 record – will probably be 7-5 after next week against Ohio State.

8. Big East – Cincinnati beat Rutgers 69-38 in the highest scoring game in Big East history with a combined 107 points.

A Note On The Week Ahead…

Just a reminder that the Iron Bowl is played this Friday.  Some of you might sleep all of Friday after gorging yourselves on Turkey Day, so make sure you remember to watch the Auburn / Alabama game – one of the more anticipated games of the year both in the SEC and in the country.  The game doesn’t have SEC implications, but it does have big national championship implications.  Enjoy your short week at work and four days of football Thursday – Sunday.

It’s ironic that Michigan’s record is what is keeping Denard Robinson from serious Heisman consideration. It was Michigan who lobbied so hard for Charles Woodson to win the Heisman trophy over Peyton Manning, because of Michigan’s superior record, instead of giving it to Manning, who was clearly the nation’s best player that year.

With BSU finally wrapping up ther Friday night HS leage games, the one big win to VT isn’t worth anything. Beating someone in the ACC (almost competitive conference) is only one step above the Big East. Lets give BSU the schedule LSU had and let see them only loose one game. If we are voting for the two best teams, lets put the the top teams paired up with any SEC scheduled school (doesnt matter witch one), if they can only have one loss, then they should deserve to be there. If not then they are NOT the best teams. Auburn will beat Bama in the iorn bowl, but, South Carolina will save face for the SEC and knocking them out of the BCS title game (so it wont be stripped later). If LSU beats Arkansas, they would have defeated how many ranked teams in the polls? If not, then lets go for Oregon and TCU, Go gamecocks, we will be there soon.

Pray tell, Mike, on what NCAA rule will the NCAA strip Auburn of their wins, and why? There are currently no allegations against either Cam Newton or Auburn University. Under NCAA rules, Cam Newton is eligible to play football at Auburn.
