The comments have been fierce as fans have debated whether or not Vanderbilt’s punt returner motioned for a fair catch before getting blasted by Arkansas’ Marquel Wade. The bottom line is that it doesn’t matter anymore.
As reported by Robbie Neiswanger, Wade said,
“I was wrong. I thought he had the ball.” When asked about the little hopstep he made as bobbed to the sideline post-hit, Wade said, “I thought I just made a good play. That’s all I can say about that.”
The bottom line is that Wade made a mistake – most likely unintentionally – he got caught up in the moment and probably regrets how he acted after the hit. The young man has acknowledged his mistake, and now fans can move on.
Here is the video of the hit if you missed it.

No apology from the Lynch Mob? I guess fans can move on now?
NEVER expect an apology from an SEC fan. Neither Auburn nor Cam Newton has received any apologies, and both were vilified as bad or worse than Wade, and for the better part of a year. FWIW, I still find it hard to believe that a player watching the receiver can think he’s already caught the ball. If he’s caught the ball, why is he still looking to the sky? I think what REALLY happened is Wade tried to time his hit with the arrival of the football, and judged it badly.
The Wade conflict and The Cam Newton conspiracy are two completely different things! Why would you even bring that up in this article?
Because both were victims of a lynch mob, “guilty until proven innocent” judgement, and just as Cam Newton never received an apology for the words spoken against him, and the things denied him because of unfounded allegations, neither will Wade. There’s the connection. They’re not two entirely different issues when an apology isn’t forthcoming for either.
Thank you, Kevin! At least he isn’t kicking marines faces in bar fights or smoking synthetic marijuana. Sheesh
matt – let it go, youre not helping Arkansas or the Hogs by bitching about an alleged assault and minor team rule infractions. Wade has apologized, the lynch mob will never apologize, no use trying to get them to.
Andrew you are completely right. Wade can apologizes but anyone who saw the game are going to hold to their beliefs. I watched the game, and I still do not think the hit was accident, no matter how much Wade apologizes, I will not think it was an accident. But I am over it, At least he had to the respect to apologize, and that is all I ask for. Matt on the whole LSU controversy, LSU handle that. Jefferson didn’t kick a Marine, that was a false statement. The three players caught smoking synthetic marijuana, were punished. It is a minor infraction and isn’t even recognized by the NCAA. They could have played against Auburn, but Les Miles forced them to sit. They all apologized as well. College kids will be college kids. The fact of the matter is, Wade not only disrespected his team, but Vandy as well. To me, it is one thing to disrespect a players own school. But leave that off the field.
I’m not asking anyone to apologize. Just think it was taken too far.
One Game suspension is absolute Bull Sh@t SEC. Funny how all the videos of a no fair catch call are being disabled. I guess all the whining and Lynch Mob are getting their way and the video proof and the man’s explanation and apology are not being considered. Lets just see what the officiating is like on Saturday as well. Could be shades of a previous Arkansas/Florida game. Was the Alabama player ejected for the hit on the Florida Player (as posted) which was obviously a flagrant violation ejected from the Game or given a Game suspension? Was the Helmet to Helmet hit on Wilson by the Vandy Player even called? Is the Vandy player who made the Head to head hit against Tyler Wilson being given a One game suspension? This is just more justification for a presumptuous offical and sports media who implied player intent on an ejection and a whining bunch of Vandy fans who didn’t win the Game. The Vandy player who made the helmet to helmet hit on Tyler Wilson should also be suspended for one Game if this is truly a message to protect the players.Typical reaction from a lynch mob trying to justify their actions. Maybe all the Arkansas fans should start complaining about the Helmet to Helmet no call by Vandy against our Quaterback! Marquel Wade has been unduly persecuted and given a bad rap by the SEC and the Media. Just take a look at some of the racist vile comments and accusations that have been made. Felling better and justified for your witch hunt now. Don’t want to even consider that he very well may have thought the player had the ball and was celebrating what he thought was a good play? Go Hogs win the next one for Marquel !
Very well put, BossHog. I can’t believe the hype this has caused because a young player wants to show the coaches he can hustle to the play and make the play. For some reason I feel as though Wilson has been targeted by the front four of almost every team we have faced this year coming into conference play. He gets pummeled to the ground, gets back up, and the helmets to helmets never get noticed by the ref. let them whine, let them degrade the hogs because of our lust of winning the game and not allowing big plays.
