Meet The Casualties Of Early Game Times In Baton Rouge

Saturday evenings in the fall are a special time. If you are an LSU fan, you know that it is a tradition for all home games in Tiger Stadium to have an evening kickoff. This gives you plenty of time to cook all of your tailgating food!

You will see a wide variety of tailgating food in Baton Rouge on gameday. From Seafood boils with fresh crabs from Lake Pontchartrain like these…

To fall off the bone ribs…

To a wide variety of other cajun tailgating dishes like gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice.

and even some fried Alligator!

In my opinion, the best tailgating food is found in cajun microwaves

Inside of these plywood and steel lined boxed are suckling pigs and a LSU tailgating tradition known as a Cochon de Lait.  When cooking a whole pig for your tailgate, you need an evening game! You need the additional 4 hours of tailgating time!

Unfortunately, CBS focuses on viewers and ratings not tailgating. Last year when I was in Baton Rouge for the Alabama game, CBS moved the game up to a 2:30 CT kickoff. I was expecting to have a full day of tailgating in Baton Rouge, but a few days before kickoff, CBS decided that they wanted to have this game as their mid day game.

It required getting there at 4:30 in the morning, but LSU fans were able to have their pigs ready to eat! This group of tailgaters decided to make their pigs resemble the Big Al the Alabama Mascot.

With the big game against Auburn this Saturday, CBS has done it again. A 2:30 central kickoff. I have no worries that LSU fans will be able to adapt and treat the visiting Tigers to a great tailgating experience.

In Baton Rouge, it is Geaux Tigers.

Even though the game time has been moved up, with the defending National Champions coming into town and LSU wearing their pro combat jerseys, I am sure this Tiger Battle will be a great one. I can’t guarantee what will happen on the field, but I can guarantee that LSU tailgaters do some damage while tailgating. Geaux Tailgating!
