The Georgia Bulldogs are playing really well at the moment. Their 45-7 throttling of Auburn was a thing of beauty, and this team is ultimately peaking at the right time, right now.
Sure, there are questions remaining for the Bulldogs, but there are question marks for every team in the SEC, even Alabama and LSU. Both Alabama and LSU do not have a difference-maker at quarterback and Georgia absolutely does. Let’s also not forget what Todd Grantham is doing with this defense, because it is just mauling offenses, and they certainly took care of Auburn’s yesterday.
Aaron Murray set the school passing touchdown record for a season, as he threw four touchdowns on the day. Murray is playing quarterback at a very high level for Georgia.

On defense, Georgia also played very well. Baccari Rambo – also known as the college football player with the best name – had an impressive pick-six to help cement the game for the Bulldogs:
Georgia and Arkansas are the two hottest teams in the SEC right now. With a win next week against the Kentucky Wildcats, Georgia will punch their ticket to Atlanta to face whoever escapes the gauntlet of the SEC West – Arkansas, Alabama or LSU.
I am, however, a believer in this Georgia team right now by the way they are playing on the field. Starting 0-2 certainly put doubt in my mind, but they are a different team.
The question becomes, can Georgia compete with LSU in the SEC Championship Game? After yesterday’s game, it would appear that they could. LSU slaughtered Auburn too, however, a few weeks ago.
If you compare how “battle tested” each team is, you see a stark difference. LSU has gone through one of the most impressive schedules (West Virginia, Oregon, Alabama and eventually Arkansas), while Georgia has easily played one of the weakest SEC schedules in the conference (South Carolina, Ole Miss, Miss St, Tenn, Vandy, Florida, Auburn and Kentucky next week). A big difference. Will it show when these teams potentially meet in Atlanta? We shall see.
Regardless, Georgia fans should enjoy the moment. Weak schedule or not, the team is taking care of business right now, and that is all that matters.

I wouldn’t put a lot of stock in how a team looks against Auburn. One of the things about a young team is that they can play beyond their years in some games, and look really ugly in the next one. Georgia’s SEC results included a loss to South Carolina, a 14-point win over Ole Miss, a 14-point win over Mississippi State, an 8-point win over Tennessee, a 5-point win over Vandy, and a 4-point win over Florida. I personally think Auburn helped Georgia look a lot better than they actually are. Don’t take that the wrong way. Georgia has a good team, but they’re still not in the same league with LSU.
It doesn’t matter who we beat, we will never be good enough… We started the season out really bad. But the defense has kept us in games, JUST LIKE LSU. Our offense finally does something against A TEAM WITH A WINNING RECORD, and people still complain about how bad the team we beat is… I am not saying we are as good as LSU…. But I hope to find out exactly how good we are, if we get to play them.
robby, I’m not saying Georgia is not a good team. They’re a very good team. I just don’t believe the win over Auburn demonstrates that they’re in the same league as Alabama and LSU. Those two teams are definitely the cream of the league in 2011. Arkansas is also a very good team, but as was witnessed earlier in the Alabama-Arkansas game, Alabama and LSU are playing at a higher level than the rest of the SEC this year. Several teams, Georgia included, have the talent to compete with these two teams in future seasons, but where these teams need seasoning and maturity, Alabama and LSU are a veteran group already.
Ok. I guess I am just tired of people saying we suck. Now, we sucked last year. I will admit that. And we played crappy against BSU. I was there. It sucked. But, we should not have lost to South Carolina. I would love to play the first 2 games of the season at the end. The way they are playing now, would be no contest. Do I think we are better than Alabama or LSU? No! But if I had to take my chances, I would rather play LSU than Bama. 2 reason are LSU gives up more passing yards than Bama. And we “USUALLY” play better against LSU. Being real, I don’t think we would win, but it won’t be as bad as some people think…
Funny how quickly the story changes…two weeks ago “certain” Auburn fans were saying they how they were better than any team in the east…now all of a sudden you cant put stock in a victory against them. Well…You can put stock in this: Our Defense is back….We just SHUT DOWN the number 2 rushing offense in the SEC. And when Murray is on point and we have contributions from the running game we can play against ANYONE in the nation. Gooooooooo Dawgs Sic Em!!!
I wouldn’t say that we are at the same level as Bama or LSU, but I do think that we have a chance of beating them, as Johnny said, young teams can play beyond their years sometimes.
I think today’s games illustrated what I was saying last week. Don’t read too much into the big win over Auburn. Look at the entire schedule of both teams. Until they played Auburn, Georgia was winning, but the wins were close. Meanwhile, Auburn had to score two late TDs to beat Utah State, needed a last second stop to beat Mississippi State, struggled against Florida Atlantic and Samford, and were beaten badly in each of the games they lost.
Georgia is a good team, and obviously the best of the SEC East, but I stand by my assertion that they’re not in the same league as LSU and Alabama this year. The Auburn win was not a show of greatness by the Bulldogs, but more the result of playing a young team that loses it’s composure when things start going wrong.
I think this weekends events illustrated that teams across the country were guilty of looking forward to the big rivalry games next weekend…Okie st, Oregon, Okla, and Clemson all fell while in the sec UF, AU, and yes even Big Bad Bama gave up a considerable amount of points to Div 2 schools. UGA WON THE GAME…and the east….And thats all that matters…UGA was flat on offense but was down to their 4 th string RB …who I might add gained 100 yards. Also give KY credot for coming to play. The fact stands that our D is playing at a level that is in the same league as LSU and Bama..in fact before this weekend, our D was 4th in the Nation…Noone is claiming were better than LSU or Bama but give credit where its due and dont be suprised when them Dawgs hunker Down for that SEC Crown!
