Hugh Freeze will be the new coach at Ole Miss. Who? No, Hugh. Ole Miss made the right hire with Freeze.
It’s not the sex appeal of a Gus Malzahn, but it is a safe, solid hire for the Rebels, a program that could use some solidity right now.
Freeze led Arkansas State to a 10-2 record and the 2011 Sun Belt championship in his first season as their head coach.
Freeze was an assistant coach under former Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron in 2005-2007 as the wide receivers coach; so, he was always thought to be the logical hire for Ole Miss with ties to the program.
Ole Miss is coming off of a tumultuous season where the Rebels went 2-10 and currently have a 14-game losing streak in the SEC.
Freeze is reported to have a four-year contract with the Rebels.
There is much work to be done in Oxford.
