Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones has had a monster year for the Bulldogs, and he is a very big reason this defense is ranked in the top five in nearly every defensive category in the SEC. They are good, but are they as good as LSU’s?
Jones seems to think so. He spoke to the media Monday and had this to say about the Tigers:
“I mean, everybody praises LSU defense, but I think — I know we’ve got a pretty good defense. We’re not cocky at all. We’re just going to play. We do our job and get out on the field. We like having fun. We love playing football. We’re aggressive. We play just as well as them.
“A lot of people don’t give us credit of how they play and how we play. I think we play two different styles. I think our defense is just as good as theirs if not better.“
Jones is leading the SEC in sacks (13.5) and tackles for loss (19.5). He’s having a monster year, and we’ll all get to see if Georgia can do the unthinkable this Saturday in Atlanta.

They are a very good defense, in my opinion yes they are as good as LSU, but time will tell that. Saturday I think promises to be a better game than people are giving them credit for. They may have the Honey Badger…. but we’ve got the Beast from the East. And Jarvis Jones is as good of a defensive player as anyone you can compare him to. He is incredible and the Dawg Nation is SO happy to have him.
I’ll agree that Jarvis Jones is one of, if not the best defencive player in the SEC. And GA has made massive improvements to the whole team! But JJ is just 1 man. LSU has a BRUISING D-Line and 3 or 4 guys that may not be as good as JJ. But they ain’t bad! I think it’ll be a closer game than some think. But LSU’s brutality will prevail. That being said, I’m sure GA will be a force to be reckoned with the next couple years giving the East, as well as the rest of the SEC, something to be proud of.
Well Said Sir…and point taken…wish more folks could state an intelligent opinion of us on here instead of just arrogantly dismissing the notion that we can actually play. However, we do have more than JJ on Defense as well…Boykin and Rambo have been lights out all year while Ogletree coming back has been huge… and we have size up front that matches up with anyone.
UGA’s Defense is behind the #5 nationally ranked Gamecock Defense!! I don’t have a fav in the SEC Championship game as long as the SEC finishes #1 at the end of the BCS game !!!

Let’s just all hope & pray that LSU doesn’t play with the STREET THUG tactics they played with when they went up against Alabama! It’s understandable to want to WIN, but to resort to EXTREME UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT makes the win less sweet. Looking forward to the REMATCH between OUR CRIMSON TIDE BOYS & “LS-Who”! I love how Bama fans need to make an excuse for why they lost. Thugs?.. Really? I have heard for the last few weeks how Bama should have won the game cause they are the better team and that LSU only won because of missed field goals. News flash Bama fans! Special Teams is a facet of the game and you cant win unless you win all three facets… Offense, Defense, and yes Special teams. I personally don’t believe bama deserves another chance at LSU. Why should one team have to win twice against a team to be declared the best team when they have already beaten you once? I believe that is only fair to the rest of the country and LSU to play someone they haven’t beaten yet in the national championship game. Alabama just face it you are the 2nd best team in the division and don’t deserve another shot at LSU.

A BAMA fan will never make excuses & my comment was not an excuse. When a player INTENTIONALLY attempts to seriously injury another player, that is STREET THUG tactics. I have friends from all over the country who HATE Bama because we have an INCREDIBLE team, year, after year, after year. OH how I love Alabama counting Tactics. The real number is 9, unless you start counting unofficial national championships, in that case the number is 13. But if you use the same strategy LSU has won 6 and looking to make it 7. That’s right HairyDawg77, I did the research. But really only Bama fans and maggots can live off a dead Bear for 30 years.
I don’t know where you got the other 3 LSU National Titles from. Bama claims 13 and LSU claims 3. I agree before the 70′s or 80′s how they determined the National Champ is more confusing then the BCS. You go through the records and Georgia has something like 9 National Titles but they only claim 2.
HairyDawg77, your answer would be 1935, 1936, and 1962. All were split national titles. Georgia has I think 6 counting all the splits. If we want to talk here and now, The BCS is the standard and LSU has two, Bama has 1.

Guess youve never heard of a team getting better over the course of the season? I thought it was pretty funny seeing how over hyped South Carolina was at the beginning of the year. If Georgia played S.Car right now they would destroy them even with Lattimore back in the mix. No, Im not being an ignorant UGA fan either. The facts are in the numbers and right now our Defense is playing great football.
Will that be enough to beat LSU? I really cant honestly say, I just hope the Dawgs come out and play good football. I wanna see the team that whipped Auburn back out on the field against LSU.
Georgia has gotten better but who have they really played that can compare to LSU… Boise state and South Carolina? They haven’t faced Alabama this season. Georgia probably has one of the easier schedules of the season and being in the SEC east doesn’t help. I think that has a lot to do with why they have such a high ranked defense.
I’m sick of hearing this argument from people. “Who has UGA played, blah, blah, blah…” We just rattled off 10 straight wins, with most of those wins coming against SEC teams, no easy accomplishment regardless of who you played. Take a look at Alabama’s body of work…the only SEC teams that Alabama played that UGA didn’t play are LSU and Arkansas…and they lost one of those games. And don’t act like Alabama’s out of conference schedule was some daunting task either. They beat Penn State, and that’s about all I see. Granted, UGA lost to Boise State and South Carolina, but we are a very different team from when we played both of them. CMR admitted that he and his staff didn’t prepare enough for the Boise St. game. If we played them again, I would bet the farm that the outcome would be different.
Lol you are right alabama hasn’t had that tough of an out of conference schedule but they played toe to toe with LSU. The SEC doesn’t have an easy in conference schedule but the east is a little soft this season.

Our defense held your offense to just 21 points, unfortunately we made some terrible, untimely mistakes that cost us the game. Don’t act like your team is as bad a$$ as you think it is, if we had an opportunity to play you again like LSU v. UA, we would beat the breaks off of your team. Trust me.
Hmm when teams/fans say they “beat themselves” it means by turn overs. Which means our Defense beat ya’ll, which it did. In short South Carolina’s defense is better than UGA’s. Your “great” defense as you claim to have held us to 21 points on offense. Since you didn’t put two and two together that means almost half of our points were scored by our defense with exception of the fake punt we ran for a TD. Our D-line threw Arron Murry around like a rag doll.

Georgia didn’t have the top 3 from the west in their schedule because they had them in the previous couple years. You can only play so many West teams in 1 season. Y’all got burned by Auburn and then we burned them. The only difference between schedules is Arkansas. Even Spurier realized that and said they dropped the ball. Stop being such a sore loser. Oh, your defense is not better, it may have been that game but overall Georgia has a top 5 ranked defense, SC doesn’t.
UGA fans say they beat themselves. If I remember correctly UGA had 4 turnovers in that game and USC had 3. We gave you the ball on our own half of the field 3 times and UGA could only get 6 points. When UGA turned it over USC made them pay. The fact is that we beat you. You got your SEC EAST crown because of your schedule and that’s all. The best game you played was agiainst Auburn and the rest of the time you squeezed by teams USC easily beat, like Vandy and UK. We were the best team in the each because we were 5-0 in the east. We lost our best LT, RB and QB and still went 10-2. Without Murray, Jones and Crowell you might be 7-5. LSU has too much D. Murray will be on his back all game. 31-6 LSU Final.
LSU shouldnt worry about georgia to much because one thing we have learned is that georgia is all bark and no bite… Anytime a georgia player runs their mouth they dont back it up
Hmmm…is that why LSU is 1-3 over the last 4 games vs. UGA ?…and EVERYBODY knows the officials gave ya that one so I wouldn’t be too proud. In fact those same officials were suspended afterwards if I recall. And, what did you expect him to say anyways? That LSU was SOOOO much better and we dont stand a chance? Lol you really want to get into record I’m pretty sure LSU leads the series and I’m gonna tell you what I had to tell arkansas fans this game is now not then and I don’t expect him to say anything about LSU being great but to sit there and say that they are just as good if not better is ridiculous. I wont say that our D is better than theirs …but Im damn sure glad he and the rest of our boys feel that way…the defenses dont line up against each other… and ours has shut down better offenses than LSU……Gooo Dawgs!
What offenses have Georgia faced that are honestly better than LSU’s? Remember that LSU has 58 offensive touchdowns on the year as of now. That’s a higher number of touchdowns than any other SEC team is able to claim. So why is the Tiger offense not good? Is it because they have fewer total yards than most SEC teams? If you’ll recall, that is a product of their killer special teams play. That’s beside the fact that the redzone is the hardest part of the field to move the ball on. Those 58 touchdowns came in a perfect season in the nation’s 3rd hardest schedule. Yes, Georgia has improved every week, but let’s not forget that so has LSU; the difference is the starting point and how consistent the two teams play. LSU has steadily beaten opponents by double digits, while Georgia’s playing has been a roller-coaster – great one weak (Auburn), but absolutely abysmal the next (Kentucky). While I am not saying Georgia cannot win this game (I honestly feel Georgia could beat Arkansas at this point – if the GOOD Georgia shows up), it will not be an easy game for them.

i agree 100% if we dont make dumb desisions and dont get any penilties on offence or defence we’ll have a really good chance of winning, it ull be a good game no matter what it will be a good game and LSU has a good team but georgia is a pretty good chance
1996 had a re-match of FSU and Florida. FSU beat Florida in the last week of the regular season. They were re-matched in the Sugar Bowl which Florida won to claim the MNC.

We have a two headed monster offense and a solid defense.
Lmao Boise State is the most overrated team in the top 25 right now. You wanna talk about a 2 headed monster? LSU has a 6 headed monster on offense… QB,4 RB, Reuben Randle WR… And our secondary is arguably the best in the nation and our pass rush and run stopping is beaten only by bama… And let me remind you we put more rushing yards on them then they did on us… LSU has stopped “2 headed monsters” before…oregon, west virginia, arkansas… There is a reason why LSU is number one and a bulldog would get murdered by a tiger.
