Jeff Driskel Moving Up Florida’s Depth Chart

Florida freshman quarterback Jeff Driskel is now moving up the depth chart. Early on, all the talk was about fellow freshman Jacoby Brissett, but everyone knew it was only a matter of time before Driskel started impressing and moving on up the ladder.

That time is now.

Driskel is now No. 2 on the depth chart behind only John Brantley because he has been performing very well as of late in practice and in scrimmages. Both Tyler Murphy and Jacoby Brissett are behind Driskel right now.

Muschamp spoke on Driskel earlier today:

“He has played well in the scrimmages with good command of the offense,” Muschamp said. “I say he’s the backup at this point. Charlie and I sat Jeff down and said, “at this point, you’ve earned this opportunity but you’re a day away from those other guys gaining on you.” Tyler Murphy and Jacoby Brissett have done nothing to disappoint us. They’re both coming along well. Jacoby had his best day in the scrimmage.”

“We look at command in the huddle and all the intangible things that Charlie has seen good and bad of that,” Muschamp said. “He was accurate with the football and taking us to the right spots. There aren’t a lot of negative plays when he’s in the game. He has worked hard through the summer, dedicating himself to the playbook.”

I look for Brantley to keep this job; however, Driskel will keep impressing, and he is the future for Florida at quarterback. He has the arm strength and footwork; now, he only needs to gain some confidence and get the playbook down.

I am looking forward to seeing what Driskel has in a game setting and environment, and that could be as early as game one.
