Alabama’s best chance at beating a talented LSU team tomorrow is to run right at them. The biggest point most LSU fans will make heading into this game is that they have played against much better offenses than the Alabama defense has. This is true, but it is also worth noting that those good offenses have mostly been spread attacks – i.e. West Virginia and Oregon. Alabama has a much different offense.
Perhaps the Tennessee-LSU game offers a glimpse regarding how Alabama can run right at this defense. Prior to the game getting out of hand, Tennessee had success running the ball at LSU.
Tennessee has one of the worst running games in the conference, and we all know Alabama has one of the best. The power running of Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy should be effective against this LSU defense. Saban and his coaches will have the game plan ready to maximize the ground game and give McCarron the right opportunities to keep the defense honest.
Expect the LSU defense to load up against the run and allow their talented secondary to do their thing on their own.
Even so, Trent Richardson is one of the best in the business and he should do some damage on Saturday. Will the LSU defense be able to contain him enough to make Alabama rely on McCarron? The LSU defense is outstanding, but if there is one potential vulnerability, it is against the power running of Richardson and Lacy. Expect them to take it right at the teeth of the LSU defense.
Enough talking… enjoy the game tomorrow night. We’ll have plenty to discuss afterwards.
