Very impactful statement from Will Muschamp to the NCAA defending his player Sharrif Floyd. What player wouldn’t want to play for this guy?

From GatorZone:

STATEMENT FROM UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA HEAD COACH WILL MUSCHAMP ON NCAA RULING ON SHARRIF FLOYD

“I’m angered, disgusted and extremely disappointed that Sharrif will have to miss two games.

In my opinion Sharrif is getting lumped into what is bad about college athletics. As we indicated in the statement Saturday night his issue was not related to sports agents, University of Florida boosters or his recruitment to Florida or anywhere else.

Sharrif is what is good about college athletics – his life is about survival, struggle, disappointment and adversity. I have recruited kids that did not know where they would sleep that night or what they would eat. Growing up, Sharrif was one these kids. Sharrif’s life is also about triumph, honesty, integrity, determination, perseverance and character.  The NCAA stated that he received preferential treatment; there is nothing preferential about his life.

He grew up with only his great grandmother and still sends her Pell Grant money so she can pay her bills. How many kids do you know that would do that?  I know one – Sharrif Floyd.

I want to make it clear that this issue is not about sports agents, Florida boosters or his recruitment to Florida or anywhere else.  The issue is about his survival and the only reason the NCAA, the SEC and the University of Florida were aware of these issues is because Sharrif brought them to our attention last February. He came forward because, as I said before, he is honest and because of his integrity.

The toughest day that I have had as a head football coach at Florida was the day that I had to tell Sharrif that he could not play in our game vs. FAU last week. I took away part of his family.

He had tears in his eyes and said “What have I done wrong?” I told him he did nothing wrong. It wasn’t any easier to tell him today that he would be missing Saturday’s game.

I have two sons at home- if they end up like Sharrif I will consider myself a successful father. “

I would want to play for that guy! The NCAA is an absolute joke.

Jacory Harris takes money from a booster and gets one game.

NCAA is a JOKE. Super conferences cannot get here fast enough. I’m officially in full support.

    • When super-conferences were first discussed years ago, I was very much against it. However, within the last few years, with the back-and-forth, without no rhyme or reason NCAA…. I am for anything that brings them down. They wanna say how they are for the student-athlete, yet when a student-athlete has to do things outside of football to make sure his family survives… where’s the NCAA when a student-athlete needs him. Horrible.
Go Coach, ty for standing up for what is right.

  2. Makes no sense to me that this young man gets a two game suspension when all the blatant violations in Miami only get one game suspensions. There is never any rhyme or reason to the penalties that the NCAA assesses. And when they can’t find violations, they will wait a year in ruling and take a year away from young people’s playing careers that way.

  3. Couldn’t agree more gator fans. This coach is an incredible man, to hear him say that about one of his players is an ultimate testament to the character of Shariff . Shame on the NCAA, I wouldn’t worry too much longer they will soon be obsolete. Ya’ll enjoy my old defensive coordinator, he will do great things at Florida. Sure miss Will in Purple and Gold. Geaux Tigahs!!!.

  4. NCAA punishments NEVER fit the violations! I am not in favor of super conferences, but I am so sick of the NCAA and their unfair rule over college football. So, if super conferences get rid of the NCAA, then maybe this good will out weigh the bad!

I am glad to see a coach publicly stand up for a player. It doesn’t happen enough anymore.

  5. NCAA is getting ridiculas, i really cant believe they suspended him and im an LSU fan. Wish him the best of luck. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!

  6. I’m proud of Will, a great Dawg player and obviously a coach with his head on straight. I wish Sharrif the best and congratulate on Will making a public statement. NCAA- what a joke. I hear the train of change coming down the track.

  7. The money was used to help Shariff get an education..to better his life. Isn’t that what the NCAA should be extolling – going to college and getting a degree?

He didn’t sell things for tattoos because he’s an athlete. He didn’t take money from a booster or a street agent. He was helped to get living expenses so he could eat and stay dry at night. If you cannot see the distinctions in this situation, obviously the NCAA can’t, and it’s a sad indictment of the level of intellect upon that terrible organization.

  8. why haven’t i seen this on TV at all?? I would really like to hear/see the whole thing. anybody have any media of it?!

  9. I know right? God forbid the media portray an honest stand up athlete on national T.V. doing something as worthy as Sharif was doing for his family. And it make the NCAA look bad. I mean this story really pisses me off.

  10. First, I am a huge Bama fan so no bias here. But also a huge college football fan. I am so disgusted by the hypocrisy of the NCAA. Something has to change, something has to be done. This is the final straw. The thought of this fine young man who has struggled through adversities that most of us can’t even imagine being punished for his honesty, sickens me. But, let a parent shop a kid and as long as he “supposedly” doesn’t know, everything’s fine….no suspension, no punishment. And let’s not forget the joke of the punishment levied against OSU & Miami. Again, no bias, just looking for fair treatment of all players. Good luck Shariff!!!!!

  11. I agree. Disgusting. What cracks me up is all of the cane and osu fans on the boards on espn saying he should get more of a punishment because there was more $ involved. What a bunch of IDIOTS!

All I gotta say is, there will be one *VERY* fired up D-lineman ready to play next weekend (that is, IF the ncaa does what they say). May God have mercy on the vols! ;-p

  12. hunterhartness,

To answer your question, it’s not on ESPN because they don’t like putting anyone from the “big bad” SEC in a positive light.

  13. Muschamp is a great guy even though he once was a Dawg and is now a Gator. He is correct on all points and I think it is great that he stood of for Sharrif the way he did. I only wish more college coaches in this day and age had the passion for his players the way he does. What’s right is right and wrong is wrong and Sharrif was done wrong. Kudos to Muchamp for doing what was right. Good luck in the future except of course at The Cocktail Party! The NCAA needs to quit holding double standards. They punish those who come forward such as Sharrif and A.J. Green last year and the ones that hide their wrong doings either never get what they deserve or it takes the NCAA 7 years to figure it out when everyone else in the country can see it with one eye open. Shame on the NCAA!!!

  14. I am definitely on the WILL MUSCHAMP bandwagon. But then I was on his bandwagon when he was the defensive coordinator LSU, Auburn & Texas. He is a fiery competitor but from every single article I have read about the man from all 3 “and now 4″ different universities he is a man of family and religion and he treats his players as part of his extended family. And with what he said about Sharrif Floyd that is a great question “What player in the entire country would not want to play for this guy? Answer – There isn’t a player that would not want to play for him. Florida players & fans you have got a great coach in Will Muschamp and unfortunately for the rest of the SEC a Florida program that will be feared once again!!!

  15. NCAA C’MON MAN…your a JOKE
