A truly amazing quote by one of the top coaches in college football, Chip Kelly acknowledged after the loss to LSU that the Tigers and the SEC simply have another caliber of athlete. Kelly pointed specifically to the defensive linemen which isn’t surprising considering the beating they took in consecutive games by the Auburn defensive line and the LSU defensive line.
“They got a little bit different athlete running around out there,” he said. “Look at their defensive linemen. Standing next to them, walking off the field, they don’t look like a lot of the guys we see. That’s the common trait.”
The quote is an acknowledgment of what most SEC fans already know: you can’t beat top SEC teams with the finesse Pac-12 play that works out west. Sure, you can run around the inferior athletes of the Pac-12, but when you face an SEC team, you face superior athletes on both sides of the ball.

Pretty bad when a number of guys on SEC defense can chased down and tackle the PAC-12′s fastest RB. When you have D that fast… it doesn’t matter how fast the opposing Offensive is.
Especially when it’s the running back who’s one of the top Heisman Trophy candidates. I’m glad LSU put an exclamation point on the statement already made by Auburn last year. Oregon is overrated!
The sec certainly has 3 or 4 good teams and maybe 3 very good teams, we will see what the gators do the rest of this year. However why do schools like Kentucky and ole miss and miss state, and vandy pipe in like they have contributed something to college football. I am a Kentucky alumni and it makes me sick seeing Kentucky fans taking pride in the wins of LSU and Alabama. That’s pathetic, the truth is Kentucky and several other schools in the conference are not good and yet I see fans of these schools going around chanting sec, sec,sec. To me this is ruining college football. It’s idiotic and ridiculous
Funny that all the Oregon fans were making fun of the SEC fans before the game because all an SEC fan needs to say is, “Oregon will lose because they are playing an SEC team.”
And now Oregon fans find out they were completely wrong thinking that finesse offense can push around an SEC defense. Not. Gonna. Happen

It’s a whole different ball game down here. OU, Tejas, OSU don’t want any of the SEC. Save for Vandy and Kentucky if you don’t have the size and talent to at least potentially play in the NFL after a couple years of development you can’t play in the SEC and you’re not going to get recruited into the conference. It’s an arms race of size, talent, and speed that the rest of country can’t keep up with. It’s a no brainer why more than half of the SEC’s schools average more attendance than 28 of the 32 NFL teams, and Arkansas’ would be up there too if we didn’t keep our awesome tradition of playing 2 home games a year in Little Rock in a 20,000 seat smaller stadium. SEC is the heavyweight division, Big 10 is the light heavyweight division, Big 12-3 and Pac 12 are the middleweights, and the Big East is the lightweight division, and the rest are bantamweights.
No big surprise here. Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio said on ESPN’s the Herd that(Paraphrased)”We worked on being a top team, elite, but after the Alabama loss we realized that we were just not at their(Alabama’s/SEC) level.”
You guys are very good, I’m not taking that away from you but let’s not put a lot of pride in a Michigan state win, remember Iowa beat them 38-3 last year.
Interesting question. Based off these comments and how Oregon has been performing do you see a possible venture to the SEC for Chip Kelly? It’s is starting to look like both Georgia and Ole Miss are going to have head coach openings, and Chip probably wants to win a national title and maybe becoming an SEC coach is the answer.
I was actually thinking the same thing when I read this quote. However, I don’t think Ole Miss is an option. Could Chip Kelly move from Oregon to Georgia? Maybe, and Georgia would hire him in a second I think.
He could do a good job at UGA…
If Richt is ousted from GA I’d be interested in seeing Kelly there. Mainly cause I don’t want them snagging Kirby Smart! :D

all thiis nonsense about OreGONE’s speed and pace is ridiculous. Defenses faking injury against their tempo gimme a break!!! Their “Tempo” and “Pace” were NON-Factors against AU and LSU. WHY? B/C SEC Defenses are AS FAST and BIGGER than their Offense. What most teams fail to realize is the SEC defenses face more talent every day of practice against its own teams Offense than MOST other conferences see ALL YEAR with their pansy-@$$ schedules. Also, against LSU, the Ducks had as many, if not more injuries than LSU. They simply could not withstand the LaBeat DOWN the LSU O line and Spencer Ware and Michale Forde was giving them. BTW, yet another game their “heisman” rb failed to break 100 against an SEC team. what a joke!
Could anybody give Ohio state some credit for handling Oregon in the Rose bowl. You look at how their offense has performed and it was almost identical against 1. Ohio State. Rose bowl. 2. Auburn. NC game 3. Lsu this season, and OSU gets no credit like they stink, If I remember right they beat Arkansas too.

half the teams in the SEC have losing records! TN, FL, VANDY, MISS ST, OLE MISS, KY….SEC has 2 great defenses and a lot of big name football programs lacking big game players….the exception is saban and miles…who appear to have recruited a family of silverbacks from the baton rouge and tusacaloosa zoos…
