NEW: Discuss this topic in the Google+ community for SEC fans.
We knew coming into this season that the SEC had some stellar running backs, and they sure didn’t disappoint yesterday either.
This is a running back and defensive league right now, and here is the monster performers – in alphabetical order of course:
Michael Dyer, Auburn: Dyer had 16 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the loss against Clemson. It’s hard not to argue that Dyer is the best running back in the SEC right now.
Eddie Lacy, Alabama: Lacy carried the ball nine times for 161 tards and two touchdowns in Alabama’s win over North Texas. He is a solid 1-2 punch with Trent Richardson.
Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina: Lattimore continues his dominance, this time against Navy where he carried the football 37 times for 246 yards and three touchdowns. This kid cannot be stopped. He now has a voice in the Heisman race.
Chris Rainey, Florida: Chris Rainey is carrying this Florida team on offense right now, and he had 21 carries for 108 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 104 yards, including an 84-yard touchdown that took the wind out of the Vols’ sails. He also blocked a punt for the Gators. He does it all.
Trent Richardson, Alabama: Richardson had 11 carries for 167 yards and three touchdowns over North Texas. This Alabama ground game is starting to come alive at the right time for the Crimson Tide.
Zac Stacey, Vanderbilt: Stacey had a monster day for the Commodores in their rout over the Ole Miss Rebels. Stacey carried the ball 11 times for 169 yards and a touchdown. The Dores are on the rise.
Ronnie Wingo, Jr, Arkansas: Wingo looks to be the running back who can give Arkansas a ground attack. Wingo carried the ball 10 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
This was a great week for SEC running backs altogether. I cannot wait to see these studs on the field next week.
