Jenkins' Island will be returning to the SEC in 2011

Saturday Down South is continually counting down the top 20 players in the SEC for 2011 – pre-season style!

Janoris Jenkins – No. 4

No doubt the biggest recruit Will Muschamp hauled in this past recruiting year was starting corner Janoris Jenkins. Jenkins had an opportunity to go pro but elected to return to Florida for 2011.

Jenkins has started at Florida since his freshman season in 2008 when they went on their National Championship run and beat Oklahoma. He was only the second true freshman in Florida history to start on opening day.

Jenkins comes from Pahokee, Florida – “The Muck” – where a ton of big-time prospects have hailed from in recent memory. In 2010, Jenkins was second on Florida’s team with three interceptions, including one 67-yard game-changer against Miami-Ohio. Jenkins finished seventh on Florida’s defense with 44 total tackles, and he was such a huge part of Florida being one of the top pass defenses in the county in 2010. He finished fourth in the SEC in passes defended (.92 per game).

The most impressive stat of Jenkins’ 2010 year – and maybe one of the most astounding stats of the entire SEC – was his ability to contain South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffery, Georgia’s AJ Green and Alabama’s Julio Jones. The trio combined for an average of 4.7 receptions for 38 yards and only one receiving touchdown while Jenkins played them one-on-one. That same trio against other competition averaged 97.2 receiving yards per game on 6.2 receptions and combined for 25 receiving touchdowns. That is very impressive in and of itself.

I look for Janoris Jenkins to be the top corner in the SEC in 2011 – and maybe the top corner in the country. He has exceptional one-on-one lockdown ability on any receiver.

Jenkins’ Island will be an SEC attraction in 2011.

  4. Janoris is straight nasty, let’s give him credit, even if likes to smoke da weed every once in a while. Who doesn’t?

I think Alshon is the best player in the SEC. Guy is sick.
