Three Players To Watch: Week 1

Three Players To Watch: Week 1

NEW: Discuss this topic in the Google+ community for SEC fans.

Every week a mismatch or an opportunity arises to take full advantage of that mismatch, especially as we go through out-of-conference cupcakes.

Every week Saturday Down South will be showing you three players who have a chance to dominate this coming weekend and why.

Here are three players to watch in week one:

1. RB Marcus Lattimore vs. ECU Rushing Defense

Lattimore needs no introduction as he dominated this league as a freshman. Opening weekend, South Carolina takes on the East Carolina Pirates in Charlotte. Lattimore must be licking his chops because ECU was ranked 117 out of 120 in rushing defense a year ago. The Pirates gave up 41 rushing touchdowns and yielded over 226 yards per game on the ground. Lattimore will have a field day.

2. QB Morgan Newton vs. WKU Defense

Morgan Newton is an absolute beast of an athlete. He showed two years ago what kind of player he looks to be, and I believe it’s time that he breaks out of his shell and becomes the player every Wildcat fan thinks he can be. In week one he will be going against Western Kentucky, and he will have every chance in the world to dominate this team. WKU gave up an average of over 200 yards through the air per game and gave up an average of 33 points per game last season. I think Newton scores early and often in this one to gain some confidence for the rest of the season.

3. DT Fletcher Cox vs. Memphis Rushing Offense

Fletcher Cox should manhandle Memphis inside and nullify their rushing offense. Last year, Memphis only averaged 91 yards per game, and the Tigers only ran for a total of 1,099 yards all year. I think Cox will be in the backfield early and often, and he will likely dominate this Memphis offensive line. Memphis was also 109th out of 120 teams in sacks allowed, yielding over three per game.

  1. Eddie Lacy, Trent will get about 10-15 carries before exting the game to get the subs in. Lacy will go for 100+ and two touchdowns.

  2. you can add to that that Memphis will be starting a true freshman at center. Fletcher and Josh Boyd should have a field day with that

  3. dont forget Tauren Poole vs Montana. Poole will rush for over 200 yards in route to a 59-3 victory for the Vols over the Grizzlies

  4. I like watching Lattimore run (except against Bama). But if the Pirates have a opener like last year the Gamecocks maybe in for a suprise.

  5. Ballard. 185 yards rushing, 3 TDs.

  6. Watch true freshman Shon Carson get a couple tds after Marcus comes out after the first quarter
