In addition to football, I’m also a very big basketball fan. It’s one of my favorites sports. Unfortunately, I find 99% of college basketball unwatchable. I’m completely against college football moving to any sort of large-scale playoff system which creates too many games for too many teams that aren’t any good and renders the regular season completely irrelevant. Yes, I basically just summed up college basketball.

Checking in at No. 11 on the countdown is Auburn defensive end Corey Lemonier. Lemonier’s play has somewhat been overshadowed by his team’s struggles over last year, but he absolutely had a great year and should have another one in 2012.

The Denver Broncos have reportedly won the Peyton Manning sweepstakes. John Elway, John Fox and a host of others out West will soon welcome the four-time MVP with open arms after two weeks of frequent flights, meetings and recruiting itineraries.

Last month, I reported on the relationship between several SEC athletic departments and U-Diligence, a company run by a former Department of Defense anti-narcotics contractor that specializes in “monitoring” social media usage by student-athletes. Recently, there has been signs of blowback against this type of activity.

LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo comes in at No. 12 on the countdown for 2012. Mingo is a terror off the edge for LSU, and he is only going to get better as he fills out his 6’5″ frame. Mingo should have a monster year for the LSU Tigers.

As we get into the top 5 schedules for 2012, we see a significant increase in difficulty. Not that the previous nine schedules weren’t difficult, but the top five are likely some of the toughest schedules in college football. We start the “top-tier” with the Florida Gators, coming in with the 2nd toughest schedule in the SEC East and the fifth toughest in the entire conference.
