Before the game there was talk about a split National Championship should Alabama win a close game over the #1 LSU Tigers. Well, that argument ended swiftly with the ugly shutout that was the BCS Championship Game. The AP voters responded in kind with the Tide running away with the AP poll. No split national championships this season.
Three SEC teams ended in the top 5. Kudos to Arkansas (a team nobody is talking about) for a heck of a season.

While Alabama is the obvious BCS Champion, I think the top spot in the AP should be split with LSU. Both teams put up tremendous seasons and only had one bad game.
I’m a huge LSU fan, and deeply disappointed in the loss, but it was a loss. I don’t care what happened in the regular season, LSU is #2, and that’s where they belong. We just have to accept it. We’re not a bunch of whiny bitches like USC (2003-2004 season)
There is a huge difference between a “close game” and a “bad one.” When distinguished correctly there is no question the AP made the right determination.
Amen Kyle! If it had been a close game like the one that was fought out back in November, yes, I could see it happening & agree with it, but last night ALABAMA SHOWED UP HUNGRY & DETERMINED. Whether you love, like or HATE Alabama, if you’re honest, you’ll have to admit, ALABAMA IS #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We’ll all have to disagree on that.
The beauty in all of this is, disagreements on the subject are immaterial. The “powers to be” have spoken and by a high majority made the decision. The idea of entertaining anything else is a moot issue and if “argument for argument sake” is the point, I guess we could speculate on whether or not Alabama should have won the game at all. As it is, things turned completely in the Tides favor and fortunately those with much less bias than me made sure it did.
Roll Tide VikiPayne!
You need to change your profile picture!
I look at it as an 8 quarter football game with scores from both combined. Bama played like the score was 9-6 at the beginning of the first quarter this game. If LSU had been close then yea, give them the split, but a combined score of 27-9 from both games?
No way, Bama is the clear-cut winner.
Thanks for the Arkansas shout out. I know the Hogs are proud of our team and proud to be in such a fantastic conference!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the HOGS as long as they aren’t playin’ our BAMA BOYS!!!!!!! WPS & ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!
Awesome call on the Hogs…most underrated and under appreciated team in the country, much less the conference. Things are turning in Fayetteville…people better start paying attention! WPS! HFFL!
After allowing 70 points in a bowl game how is Clemson in the top 25??
Lifetime GameCock Fan and never thought i would agree with a Georgia fan but you hit the nail on the head!! lol
I’m not a Clemson hater by no means, however, I have to agree! Seeing that the team that scored 70 isn’t even a top ten team!
Seriously. If a team is blown out by a team ranked 23rd, how in the world can you say they are in the top 25?
Also, Auburn got shafted. They were ranked in the top 25, won their bowl game, and then dropped out?
Chris, I was wondering about that, too. How do you win…. then drop in the standings???
I still strongly believe Arkansas is truly the third best team in the nation. Unfortunately though they never got the chance to prove it. Im still shocked my gamecocks finished the season like they did with everything that happened to us. What a heck of a season. The SEC did it again! Oh yeah and the whole country is already laughing at clemson so who cares.
I just want to say, on behalf of Arkansas, thank you! It’s nice to get some recognition outside of our home state :D
I can’t say I agree… though Arkansas is good, they had two chances to prove they were great. They lost 2 games this year and that was to #1 and #2.
However, I think the Gamecocks should’ve finished above 9…
I’m Just proud of the SEC… Congrats all
Of us…
Who is the person that gave LSU a number 1 vote?? Did they watch the game last night?
They base that vote on a full seasons work. Someone in California gave Boise st a #1 vote all year until they finally lost. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility that we get a vote or two. We had an amazing season.
its that damn southern cal’s fault that the Gamecocks arent higher up. screw you kiffin!
Congrats SEC… One thing I don’t understand is how is Oregon ranked above Ark. I KINDA understand OSU (although I think Arky would beat the Cowboys, but I kinda get it given the body of work); however, Ark. lost to the top two teams in college football and had to play 6 ranked opponents, while Oregon had to play only 4. Both lost to LSU, but Ark lost to Bama, while Oregon lost to USC. So, again I ask, how is Oregon ranked above the Hogs? Makes no sense.
I agree with you, Bruce. In fact, in my opinion, ARK should’ve played OSU in the bowl. But BCS rules don’t allow a 3rd SEC team in a BCS bowl.
Arkansas is better then Oregon and ok st. There is just no definitive way to prove it.
