As Florida and Georgia fans prepare to descend upon the city of Jacksonville for the annual Cocktail Party, a horrific event occurred at the Jacksonville Landing after the Chicago Bears-Jacksonville Jaguars game this past weekend.
A Bears fan who travelled from Chicago to the NFL game was hanging out at the Fionn MacCool’s Irish Restaurant at the Jacksonville Landing when a 28-year old Jacksonville resident walked up to him and slashed the victim’s throat. The man died from his injuries on the scene.
I’ve attended the Cocktail Party numerous years and participated in the festivities associated with the Florida-Georgia game at the Jacksonville Landing, and this is quite a shocking and disturbing event.
If you’ve spent any time at the Landing during Florida-Georgia weekend, you know the police presence is heavy. With the level of alcohol consumption and rowdiness, fights sometimes occur. Police break up and haul people to jail almost immediately. While the behavior each year at the Landing isn’t exact admirable, it typically doesn’t go further than some minor scuffles.
You can probably expect and even larger police presence for this year’s game after this awful incident this past weekend.

That’s pretty nuts. The Landing does get a bit hectic, but it sounds like it wasn’t even a crazy scene after the NFL game, just a lone psychopath. Just awful.
The Landing is a pretty nutty place. Friday nights before the game are pretty wild. Too many people packed in that place.
