SEC Football News on Saturday Down South

Pinkel resignation rumors would make 5 SEC openings

The news out of Columbia, Missouri, is that Mizzou head football coach Gary Pinkel will resign on Monday. The Saint Louis Journal tweeted the information earlier this afternoon.

Many won’t believe it until the official announcement has taken place, because Pinkel has said he will be out recruiting this week and working on getting the program back on the right track. If Pinkel does in fact step down at Missouri tomorrow, that will be five jobs in the SEC open.

Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Auburn all have fired their head coaches. Pinkel would leave under different terms, obviously. Nonethelses, it was a frustrating year for Pinkel and the Tigers in their inaugural season in the SEC.

The Tigers finished 5-7 overall and 2-6 in the SEC. From injuries to offensive struggles, this team experienced everything in 12 games.

  1. Surely not after just one year…. I really felt like they had their sails deflated after the Georgia game and never really bounced back. Would be surprised if he quit just because to me it seems like a case of “When the going gets tough just quit”

When Mizzou was in the process of leaving the Big WTF for the SEC, I had the impression that Pinkel wasn’t wild about the move and would have preferred staying put. Of course, neither was Mike Sherman at A&M, who is no longer around.
