SEC Football News on Saturday Down South

Vegas says Georgia is 2 point underdog at South Carolina

NEW: Discuss this topic in the Google+ community for SEC fans.

With Georgia struggling to win at home against what some perceive as an underwhelming Tennessee team, the initial Vegas line on the upcoming SEC East battle of Georgia vs South Carolina was set to 2.5 points in favor of the Gamecocks. Initial movements brought the line immediately to -2 for South Carolina.

The SEC East could very well have a clear front runner after Saturday as Florida plays LSU at home. Both South Carolina and Georgia still have games against Florida, but the winner of October 6th could easily end up the winner of the SEC East.

We’ll have plenty of coverage on these huge games all week, but for now, Vegas favors the Gamecocks. Disagree? Put your money where your mouth is.

FYI, LSU is currently favored by 2.5 at Florida.

  1. Love it! I think Georgia wins by 10 in this game. Dawgs dominate with the balanced offense.

  2. Let me be the first to go ahead and get this out of my system. I HATE South Carolina, Im still livid about the game last year and yesterdays game was way to reminiscent of last years game against SCar… Okay, with that out of my system, I really think its going to be a great game and I really think it is going to come down to which team decides to bring the best version of their teams. Lets be honest here Vanderbilt gave Scar some trouble when that should have been an easy game. I think UT was “Vanderbilt” for Georgia last night in the same fashion. So I think there are a ton of scenarios but Im personally hoping both teams bring their A game and they dont play sloppy football, because that will be the best way to savor a win if the Dawgs pull it off.

As a Georgia faithful Im giving us 10 points. We piled the points on last year but turnovers and missed plays kept them making plays right there with us and they obviously won. So lets hope the dawgs hunker down!

  3. @BuckVincent… you have no defense… Sure you have Jarvis Jones, Olgetree, and Rambo but come on man… your special teams in last years game let MI6 run it in… you had several turnovers just like Murray this year. Sure your backs are exceptional but what defense have you played? See if the duo shines against possibly the best D-Line in the country according to ESPN… Plus Gameday and a night game in the Brice the spread is right.. Fear the Visor

    • According to ESPN, Georgia has possibly the best front 7 in the country…and our offensive is still underrated, continued to shine against Tennessee.

Secondly, to your point of ” you have no defense… Sure you have Jarvis Jones, Olgetree, and Rambo but come on man…” would be like a Georgia fan saying, “you have no defense without Clowny, and Taylor”. This was the first time the Georgia D was at 100%, and we all drank the Kool-Aide that it would be performing like it was 100%. Plus you forgot to mention our other All American John Jenkins and another All-SEC caliber secondary Sanders Cummings. You can’t say a team has no defense by excluding their best players. Either way, my point being…the Georgia D is legit. Hopefully, it will shine this week.

Thirdly, about “Sure your backs are exceptional but what defense have you played?” Well here are some stats (that is kinda my thing):
      79 attempts – 314 yards for a 3.97 rypa
      71 attempts – 415 yards for a 5.84 rypa

Now which do you think belongs to South Carolina? And which to UGA? If you said the first was UGA, you would be wrong. On less attempts, UGA has rushed for more yards than South Carolina against there two common opponents Mizzou and Vanderbilt.
Now, I am sure you say that South Carolina has played better teams, so he is the splits when it comes to what the rushing defenses looked like for each opponent:
South Carolina: Vanderbilt (10th in the SEC), East Carolina (4th in C-USA), UAB (7th in C-USA), Mizzou (7th in the SEC), and Kentucky (14th in the SEC)
Georgia: Buffalo (5th in the MAC), Mizzou (7th in the SEC), FAU (9th in SBC), Vanderbilt (10th in the SEC), and Tennessee (13th in the SEC)

Finally, when it comes to guarding your quarterback. The South Carolina offensive line has given up 13 sacks on the year, while UGA has only given up 7. Ouchies on the QB don’t really help you win games. Beyond that, as you can tell from our running backs…they block very well.

So in conclusion…should there be any sort of doubt who wins? Sure. South Carolina could win, probably won’t but could.

      • Really it comes down to the defense, as usual. UGA is averaging 48 ppg on offense which is great, but they are allowing 22 ppg in defense which is alot considering the teams that UA has played. On the other hand SC is averaging 37 ppg on offense and only allowing 11 from our defense. (2nd in the SEC). Honestly our opponents have been about the same. Its going to come down to defense as it usually does and Carolina is gonna take the win. Also, no one gives Williams Brice the credit for how loud and crazy it gets.

        • Ok, I’m not going to argue the stats for both teams. However, I do want to point out a couple of things. Like you said, Georgia averages 48 ppg on offense and 22 ppg on defense. Firts off, before Tenn. the defense was averaging 16 points a game, one bad game messed up that average. Second, most of these other games besides Tenn., Georgia had such a huge lead that they were bringing in the backups on both sides and that is why the points for averages aren’t higher and points allowed aren’t lower. No matter what though, I think this game will be great.

      • Forgot the stat of SC already having 22 sacks this year, 2nd in the country. 1st in the SEC

    • @Christopherollic- I dont think youve watched any of the UGA games at all this year. The Missouri game was a very hard fought defensive battle for both teams. I think if Mizzou would have won that game they would have more pride and would do better. I think we kind of deflated their sails a little. As many of the bulldog faithful have already said, the stats are there, the starters didnt play the whole game, etc, etc. I didn’t belittle your team at all in my comment and I dont understand why you chose to do so with mine. We will just see who the better team is Saturday.

  4. I love this, because Georgia had a close game against Tenn. they are losing credibility as the better team. South Carolina beat Vandy 17-13 and Georgia beat them 48-3. Which team do you think is better, Vandy or Tenn.?

    • How about when they played Mizzou, USC Smoked MIzzou, we can do this all day. USC And UGA both good teams, we will see Saturday. Go Gamecocks!!!

      • Both UGA and USC won by 28.

      • So Robocop, did you actually look at the scores of both games? They both won by 21 with Georgia getting the most points against Missouri. Sure the Georgia game was closer for a while but like many other games, we saw the better team wake up in the second half.

    • USC opened the season on the road in Vandy. Openers are tough, openers on the road are tougher, conference openers on the road are even tougher. Maybe you didn’t realize this because you opened at home with who? Buffalo.

      • It is still Vanderbilt. Did Bama gets phased against Michigan? Did Georgia come out swinging after that 1st half? Yes, they did and had regrouped. Did Tennessee look tried and struggled with NC State? No other team who played a harder opponent (outside of Auburn) looked as bad South Carolina. And Georgia at the very least regrouped.

      • So now we are using the excuse that Vandy was your season opener, ok. Whatever excuses you need. Like I said, I know this weekends game will be great and both teams look pretty even. My point is all teams have hiccups, LSU has had them the past 2 weeks. I see analysts saying Georgia doesn’t deserve to be in the Top 5 because of the Tenn. game. You really believe that? If so then LSU doesn’t belong in the Top 10 or even Oregon for that matter. Tell me 1 team that Oregon has played that even compares to Tenn. or Mizzou or heck since we’re talking about them, Vandy. Fact is though, like South Carolina will soon find out, Tenn. is tougher then Vandy.

  5. Awwwwe, are the Georgia Boys are up in Arms?! South Carolina and Georgia its going to be an epic match up. Lets just let the guys on the field do our talking for us till after the game yea? Both sides know, and should know that this is going to be a great game. Two stingy defenses, and high powered offenses. Even though with obvious bias aside, I think the Gamecocks Take the W at home in Williams Brice, I don’t think it’ll be an easy one….Look for the Gamecocks to start their attack in the air, and then move to the ground with Lattimore after taking the lead.

I can’t wait! Gameday even got the memo!

    GAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

    • Definitely have to agree on this one. We can talk stats all week but what it boils down to is who comes ready to play and I really dont know who is gonna take it home. I will have to have a few glasses of whiskey for this game cause my nerves are gonna be wrecked!

    • Attacking threw the air might not work…with our fully healthy secondary we have forced 3 INTs in one game (2 in the fourth). To go along side of forcing 2 fumbles (1 against Vanderbilt and 1 against Tennessee). My point being that attacking threw the isn’t going to work, ask Jordan Rodgers or Tyler Bray how well it worked for them. Jordan Rodgers had so many balls nearly intercepted Sanford Stadium was on its feet 90% of the time in anticipation.
Secondly, well I agree South Carolina has a “stringy” D, and Georgia has a “high powered offense”. Neither has both or has yet to be seen.

      • I don’t think SC has a “stringy” D whatsoever, we force alot of turnovers. I wonder how Murray will act when seeing Jadaveon on his left end again.

        • I wonder how Conner Shaw will react when he sees Jarvis Jones on his left, Alec Olgetree on his right, and John Jenkins in front of his.

    • CCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Guys it doesn’t matter. Alabama will dismantle whatever poor sucker comes out of the East in Atlanta.

  7. The numbers mean little in a game like this. Both the regular season and championship games between LSU and Bama should have been close last year, but only one actually was. This is college ball, there are so many variables to each game. All the speculation in the world won’t make your team win (regardless of who the team is). I don’t think either team has been tested yet, this should be a good one.
