Running back Isaiah Crowell was arrested in Athens early Friday morning in Athens, GA. Crowell was stopped at a traffic checkpoint at about 2:20am by Athens-Clarke County Police. Upon smelling marijuana from the vehicle, the police asked Crowell and the other passengers to step out of the vehicle so they could perform a search. No marijuana was found, but a gun with its ID number altered was found.
After finding the gun, police arrested Crowell and charged him with a felony count of possessing a weapon in a school zone as well as a felony count of altered identification mark. A misdemeanor charge of possession/carrying a concealed weapon was charged against Crowell.
It’s unfortunate news for Georgia fans looking forward to a potential big season in 2012, but it’s not exactly a shocking development considering Crowell’s brief history in Athens. After joining the Dawgs as the top running back in the country out of high school, Crowell has had off and on discipline issues including failing a drug test mid-season last year.
Crowell ran for 850 yards and five touchdowns in 2011 as a freshman, but it was clear that Crowell wasn’t the most dependable running back. Georgia brought in talented backs Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley in the 2012 class to provide added depth at running back. It looks like Georgia may have to rely more than they thought on the new freshmen.
It’s unclear what Crowell’s future looks like in Athens. I doubt many will be surprised if Crowell is kicked off the team. It’s an unfortunate development for a talented young man.

Another Georgia Bulldog who won’t be in Columbia on Sept. 8… Are they going to even have enough for a team or are we getting a forfeit win in our first SEC game ever?
The only question is did the gun belong to him? Cause if you get stopped and anyone in the car has anything illegal, you as the driver catches the charge or they charge everyone in the car…
Lets hope he just gets kicked off the team. This is the kind of nonsense that you dont need happening if you expect to ever compete for the national title.

ATHENS – The Georgia football team has indeed acted swiftly to end the Isaiah Crowell era.
Crowell was dismissed from the team, it was announced at about 5 p.m. on Friday. That was about 14 hours after the star-crossed tailback was arrested on three weapon charges, including two felonies.
“We have a dedicated and committed group of men who are working hard to prepare for the coming season,” head coach Mark Richt said in a statement. “Our total focus will be directed toward the team and this effort.”

first off, who needs a gun on CAMPUS!? thats the stupidest thing i have heard.
second of all, He NEEDS to be kicked off, i know every Georgia fan was excited when he signed to UGA, but we got Keith Marshall now and i think he WILL be a heck of a better RB than Crowell by far. But over all..GO DAWGS.
I hate this for Coach Richt & the Dawg fans. UGA has a chance to rise to the upper deck of the SEC but sorry, stupid choices like this keep cropping up. Kids are a product of their environment. Hopefully, he will be dealt with appropriately & the team can move on & jell.
They will beat Mizzou with a Feshman RB.
