James Franklin voted Notre Dame 4th behind 3 SEC teams

NCAA Football: Vanderbilt at Mississippi

It didn’t take long for Vanderbilt coach James Franklin to get the drill about conference pride. In the latest coaches poll which does factor into the BCS formula, Franklin voted Notre Dame 4th – the lowest of any coach. He put the Fighting Irish behind 3 SEC teams.

Here’s Franklin’s top ten:

  1. Alabama
  2. Georgia
  3. Florida
  4. Notre Dame
  5. LSU
  6. Oregon
  7. Texas A&M

  • Notre Dame can’t beat LSU either. I’m sorry but Notre Dame may be the most over rated team in the past 10 years. They don’t deserve to play in the BCS national championship. They may be undefeated, but when they have a cupcake schedule, it’s a joke that they are ranked that high.

    • They probably couldn’t beat A&M or SCAR. And Brian Kelly Voted Georgia 6th Apparently He didn’t watch the game. Vandy could probably beat them..

    • Hey Guys – Notre Dame doesn’t play Jacksonville St., Western Carolina or any other no-name FCS schools that litter the SEC schedules…… Georgia ONLY played three teams with winning records, wah wah…… Notre Dame played more bowl eligible teams than ANY sec team…… Franklin just embarrassed himself, his team and people with normal IQs when he didn’t identify the obvious. When he votes his own team 16th despite finishing un-ranked it shows a serious disconnect from reality….

      • I can agree that SEC teams do play quite a few FCS schools, and UGA had an easy schedule, but you can’t deny a team like Florida that played the toughest schedule in the nation. And while the nation gets tired of people saying that any SEC team can beat anyone (not a fan of those people either), Bama, UGA, Florida, LSU, TAMU, and SCar could beat Notre Dame. You can’t slight ND for going undefeated, but Franklin has the right to express what he believes are accurate rankings. Haven’t seen the over/under on the title game, but I guarantee it won’t be picking ND to win.

      • No, but they do play Navy, Purdue, Boston College, and Wake Forest.

  • As if I didn’t already have enough reasons to love Coach Franklin, he goes and does something awesome. His ballot is pretty much identical to how I would vote. I love that he sticks to his guns and voted like every SEC coach should, with an honest assessment of how much better the SEC is than everyone else. I love what he has done at Vandy and how he is making himself an icon in the SEC. Go Franklin!! Go Dores!!

  • I just can’t wrap my brain around the fact that people so passionately HATE THE SEC! I have close family members who have banished me from their lives because of Alabama football. Instead of “HATING” on the SEC why don’t they work harder to become as good as we are. Unlike so many things in life, we are NOT going to lower ourselves to make YOU feel better about yourselves. Football is “played” all over the country, but in the SOUTH, WE TRULY LIVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So soon the conference championships will serve as play-in games (quarterfinals) for the final four, as with the SEC championship was a play-in this year. Don’t think the other conferences didn’t take note. Also, pretenders will be eliminated early, and the cream will rise to the top. Such charades as this year won’t matter.

  • True – but S Carolina would roll over Notre Dame. Grown up football in the SEC.
    BCS is such a joke.
