Kentucky-Florida on paper is a blowout waiting to happen. The Gators have outscored the Wildcats 245 to 73 the last five years, averaging 49 points per game. Florida enters 3-0 against 1-2 Kentucky who is coming off an overtime loss to Sun Belt member Western Kentucky.
However, former Kentucky quarterback Jared “The Hefty Lefty” Lorenzen and Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease are making this game at least relevant beforehand with a little trash talk.
Lorenzen had a few choice words for Florida when they hired Brent Pease to run the offense back in the spring. Lorenzen expressed his first-hand experience with Pease via Twitter.
“Seriously Brent Pease at Florida?” tweeted Lorenzen. “He’s freaking crazy and was brutal at UK when I was there. Won’t be able to handle it and will be run out!”
Then he tweeted, “The good thing about Pease at UF is now we can shut them down. #nohalftimeadjs”.
With Lorenzen’s comments fuming Pease, he told the Ocala Gator Club in July that those remarks would be good for half a hundred.
“I coached Jared. Jared is one of those guys talking trash when I took this job. So that’s good for about two extra launch plays, trying to get 50 points on those guys when they come to campus.”
Joker Phillips was informed of the bickering after practice yesterday.
“Tell Jared to shut the hell up,” he joked. “Tell Pease that Jared is sorry, OK? I’ll apologize for him.”
Florida rushed for over 400 yards last year on Kentucky, and Florida’s offense this year under Pease is averaging 409 yards and 28 points through three games.
And that’s why we’re talking about Kentucky-Florida this weekend.
