UGA DT John Jenkins to miss bowl game

Mammoth Georgia nose tackle John Jenkins will miss the Capital One Bowl against Nebraska game because he failed to meet academic requirements.

Jenkins was originally a JUCO transfer who started all 13 games in his second season at Georgia this year.

“John Jenkins will not be coming to the bowl due to an academic-related issue,” Richt told reporters. “I think John Jenkins has been awesome for Georgia. I’ve been really proud of what he’s accomplished for us and just really want to wish him the very best because he’s been a blessing to our program.”

Junior backup DT Kwame Geathers will start for Jenkins. Geathers has been on the fence of whether or not to return for his senior season or enter the NFL Draft. This could be his opportunity to make some money with a big game against Nebraska in Orlando.

Georgia will also return DE Abry Jones, who has been out for several weeks due to an ankle fracture.

Jenkins’ absence will be big for Georgia, especially against a running team like Nebraska.
