According to FootballScoop.com, former Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips will be introduced as Florida’s next wide receivers coach.
The official announcement is said to be made later this week, with his first day on the job Thursday.
Phillips, of course, was fired at Kentucky after going 13-24 in three seasons.
Florida had a vacancy in its wide receivers coach staff position because of Aubrey Hill’s resignation before the season started. Hill was said to be resigning for personal reasons, but we all know it had to do with the on-going NCAA investigation at Miami.
This is a strong hire because it gives Florida another former head coach for Muschamp to bounce off ideas, and Florida’s wide receivers can only get better. The Gators have little to no impact at the receiver position for the entire season. A home run hire as a position coach? It certainly is. Check out Phillips’ coaching history here.
It doesn’t hurt that Phillips played against Louisville earlier in the season, either. Florida will play the Cardinals in the Sugar Bowl.
