Tennessee defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox and linebackers coach Peter Sirmon are leaving Tennessee for Washington.
Tennessee’s defense under Wilcox was ranked 28th in the country this season in total defense. Wilcox is widely considered one of the brightest young minds in the game, and he is now gone to Washington to join Steve Sarkisian’s staff.
Losing Sirmon is also a big blow because he was one of the best assistant coaches on that staff, and now he too is gone.
This is not good for recruiting, as this is the home stretch from now until National Signing Day, which will take place on the first Wednesday in February.
Derek Dooley faces a very important hire in the defensive coordinator position, important for both his tenure at Tennessee and Tennessee’s relevance in the SEC.
