NOLA.com is reporting that Les Miles told Tyrann Mathieu to ‘move on with his career’ in a conversation between the two on Tuesday.
Miles did confirm the conversation but would not comment on the purpose or what was discussed. Here is the video from when he first announced Tyrann Mathieu’s departure from LSU.
Mathieu previously wanted to return to LSU and sit out this year and compete in 2013. But that option is no more right now.
This is the right move by Miles in sticking with his guns. Although some will miss Mathieu in the SEC, it was the right move for the LSU Tigers and their team. Having Mathieu hanging around the program this year would be a distraction for many, including the Hat.
Much like Mathieu, Florida DB Janoris Jenkins was dismissed by Will Muschamp and attended North Alabama before eventually landing in the second round of the NFL Draft to the St. Louis Rams.
Mathieu needs to move on from this situation and distance himself from the LSU program. It’s the best thing for him and the team.
The damage has been done. He needs to take the shortest path to the NFL.
That is in all likelihood McNeese State.
Les Miles and LSU refute what NOLA.com’s source says, though.

I’m a Tennessee fan, and yes, we’ve had our share of “bad apples”…but I applaud the decision of Les Miles and other coaches…not only in the SEC, but around the country that make a stand and take the road of integrity over talent. If a player takes the attitude of “they can’t afford to not have me” that’s when they really need to learn that the consequences are zero tolerance. They’ve been raised in an atmosphere of “it’s OK, you’re special and everybody will look the other way if you do wrong” needs to stop. Great job Les ! Other coaches take heed !
