Lavon Hooks finally committing to Ole Miss was great news for the Rebels’ coaching staff and fans. After all, Hooks is the top overall JUCO prospect from Northeast Mississippi Community College at 6-4, 302 pounds, and he will make an immediate impact on the team and defensive line.
It was such great news for Freeze that he got emotional on the phone.
“He started crying on the phone,” Hooks said. “He told me this is going to be the best decision of your life and that he was proud I was part of the family.”
You have to love the emotion of Freeze and the emotion he’s brought back to Oxford. Hats off to you, Coach Freeze.
Hooks signed with Ole Miss, but Auburn made his decision a difficult one. In addition, Auburn wouldn’t accept one of his credits from JUCO, and he was forced to rule them out.
“It was a difficult recruiting battle, and we could not be more excited Lavon chose to be a Rebel,” Freeze said in a statement released by the school. “Lavon is an explosive player who will make an immediate impact on our defensive line.”
Don’t forget, Ole Miss is still in the hunt and arguably the favorite for the #1 overall prospect in defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche, who will likely decide on National Signing Day.
Didn’t Dan Mullen say that the Egg Bowl has no bearing on recruiting implications? Hooks chose the Rebels over the Bulldogs with Auburn a non-option because of credits.
