SEC All-Purpose Animal: Cordarrelle Patterson

NEW: Discuss this topic in the Google+ community for SEC fans.

Everyone in SEC country now knows Tennessee wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson. You might not know how to pronounce his name, but you know him. He announced his presence against NC State, both running and receiving. In addition, even though he hasn’t broken a long one yet, he returns kickoffs for the Vols. He’s an All-Purpose Animal.

Patterson currently leads the SEC in all-purpose yardage, and he’s currently 8th in the country. He’s as physical of a receiver as you will find in the SEC. He can play in space, and he can make the big catch in traffic.

Patterson has caught nine passes for 164 yards and one touchdown, including the bomb against NC State:

But then showed his versatility on an end-around, taking a 67-yarder to the house.

As the season progresses, we’ll see Patterson return more kickoffs, and he’ll break a long one before it’s over. He’s currently fourth in the SEC with 106 kickoff return yards through two weeks.

Tennessee’s ultimate game plan against anyone is to get the football in space to Cordarrelle Patterson and Justin Hunter, and we’ll see that on display this weekend with a date against the Gators.
