Michigan coaches are already preparing for Alabama. In case you’ve been living in a cave, these two power houses face off in September’s season opener. “I was in last week and I spent five days studying Alabama tape and watching every game they played,” said Michigan offensive coordinator Al Borges. I cannot wait for this game, and one of my very good friends has tickets and is wanting to get me out there…only thing is, he’s a Michigan fan who is already preparing to take down SEC, not just Alabama. Good luck with that… [AL.com]
Nick Saban topped Sporting News list of head coaches. While Saban is obviously the best, fellow SEC coaches Les Miles (No. 4), Steve Spurrier (No. 8) and Mark Richt (No. 14) were in the top 15. Vanderbilt’s James Franklin came in at No. 25. Check out the full rankings at [Sporting News].
Mel Kiper ranks Jarvis Jones as No. 2 among NFL prospects. Here is what Kiper had to say about Jones: “Explosive, relentless edge rusher, profiles well as a 3-4 OLB. Great first step, violent hands, extremely good burst off the snap, tackles well, closes fast. Could improve against run, but coaches there also tell me people don’t realize how well he can cover”. Jones is a stud, son. [AJC]
Derek Dooley talked coaching transition at UT’s Caravan stop. Dooley had this to say: “I feel like all those anchors that were weighing the program down and making it challenging are gone,” Dooley said. “It doesn’t mean we’ve arrived. It doesn’t mean we’re where we want to be from a roster standpoint. But it means we don’t have things tugging at his, like I felt we had the last couple of years.” [Go Vols Extra]
Former Tennessee wide receiver DeAnthony Arnett received NCAA waiver so he can play at Michigan State this year. This has been a long, drawn out process with Derek Dooley first not wanting to grant him a release to go to Michigan State. Dooley ended up doing so. Now, Arnett will in fact be able to suite up for the Spartans in year one. You never know what the NCAA is going to rule. [ESPN]
