Florida safeties’ nickname doesn’t compare to former SEC greats

If you’re heading to one of Florida’s games this year, chances are you will see ‘The Predators’, the new name given to the formal duo of Gator safeties Matt Elam and Josh Shaw.

While all other players were humble pie at Florida’s Media Days, the safeties weren’t.

They have a new identity and a new ‘rude’ attitude.

“We’re predators. We’re looking to knock heads off or making people scared to run across the middle or do a post or run a sideline and see us coming,” Elam said. “We want to be the rude nation. People come in and we want them to be like, ‘Oh gosh, we might have a long night in The Swamp.’ Just being rude and making people afraid of us.”

Will Muschamp had a few words with his team about not talking as much trash this year and just playing some football instead, unlike last year.

“We need to stop talking and start playing,” Muschamp told his team Thursday.

It’s quiet time in Gainesville for the Gators as they start practice.

The Predators nickname will likely never stick with Elam and Evans, but it gives us a chance to remember some of the great nicknames of former SEC players:
