SEC Week 1 Schedule with Vegas Spreads

NEW: Discuss this topic in the Google+ community for SEC fans.

We’re rapidly approaching football season, and it’s time to start talking about week 1 games. Here is the full SEC schedule with Vegas odds provided by Betus.com.

All lines are from August 16, 2012 – these lines will change as we get closer to game time. We will monitor them and update readers with any major movements.

Thursday, August 30th

South Carolina (-7) at Vanderbilt, 7 PM, ESPN
South Carolina is considered a seven point favorite in this game. The Gamecocks are the more talented bunch, but opening Thursday night in Vanderbilt might hint at a closer game than the odds experts are predicting.

Texas A&M (-7) vs. Louisiana Tech, 7:30 PM, ESPNU
The new era for the Aggies kicks off on Thursday night. Interestingly, Vegas has the Aggies as only a seven point favorite against Louisiana Tech.

Friday, August 31st

Tennessee (-4) vs. NC State, 7:30 PM, ESPNU
I’m on the record stating that Tennessee does some damage this year, and I’m on record saying I think it starts with NC State. I like the Vols by two touchdowns in this game. Nothing better than some SEC football on a Friday night.

Saturday, September 1st

Buffalo vs. Georgia (-37.5), 12:21 PM, SEC Network
This one gets ugly. A 37.5 point favorite as of now, Georgia gets a preseason game against Buffalo.

Bowling Green at Florida (-29), 3:30 PM, ESPN
3:30pm in the swamp means it’ll be hot. Gator fans get to see the new offense against an inferior team. Look for Bowling Green to struggle against the athletic Florida defense.

Clemson (-3) vs. Auburn, 7 PM, ESPN
One of two marquee matchups of the evening, Auburn takes on Clemson who is favored by 3 even with their stud WR Sammy Watkins suspended.

North Texas at LSU (-43), 7 PM, ESPNU
The largest line out of any of these games, LSU is favored by 43. Preseason game for the Tigers.

Jacksonville State at Arkansas, 7 PM, PPV
There’s no line out for this game as of now. If there were, it’d be big. Arkansas starts off against Jacksonville state under new coach John L Smith.

Central Arkansas at Ole Miss, 7 PM, PPV
The Hugh Freeze era starts against Central Arkansas. No line out for this as of yet.

Jackson State at Mississippi State, 7 PM, Fox Sports Net
Dan Mullen’s 2012 opener should be an easy win for the Bulldogs. No line out yet for this game.

Southeastern Louisiana at Missouri, 7 PM, PPV
Fans will be wanting to see DGB in the Mizzou opener. No line out yet.

Michigan vs. Alabama (-12.5), 8 PM, ABC
The biggest game of the opening week, Michigan and Alabama square off in Arlington. I think this line could get bought down and end up in the 10-11 range as we get closer to game time. This is a big spread for a marquee, neutral site game between two top programs. I like Alabama to win; I’m not sure I like them to cover by 13 points.

Sunday, September 2nd

Kentucky at Louisville (-14), 3:30 PM, ESPN
Kentucky is a big underdog according to Vegas in this rivalry game. Can the Cats pull the upset?

Which game is the best bet?

  1. I really like the over on Tennessee beating NC State by more than 4 points.

With that said, Go Cats! Beat UofL!

  2. So who’s gettin upset in week 1? Could Vandy pull it off at home? I wouldn’t be shocked. You know those Thursday night games get crazy! Or Dare I say that the great almighty crimson tide have a ball game on their hands? Def Wanna see that Clemson/Auburn matchup too but could honestly care less about UT/NC state. Let’s lace em up tight gentleman football is back!
