Week nine has now come and gone, and things are becoming a little clearer in the SEC, but a monster game with Alabama and LSU remains this weekend.
The third BCS Poll was released last night, and be sure to check out all the week nine recap action.
BCS National Championship Game: Alabama
All-State Sugar Bowl: Georgia
Capital One Bowl: Florida
Outback Bowl: LSU
AT&T Cotton Bowl: Texas A&M
Chick-fil-A Bowl: South Carolina
Gator Bowl: Mississippi State
Music City Bowl: Ole Miss
Liberty Bowl: Tennessee
BBVA Compass Bowl: Vanderbilt
Independence Bowl: Missouri
Either Georgia or Florida could be picked to go to the Sugar Bowl as an at large if Alabama still plays for the national championship. If Georgia loses and Florida wins out, the Gators could wind up in the Sugar Bowl. However, if Florida loses again to Florida State, Georgia could have a shot at the at large for the Sugar Bowl. Again, this is all dependent on whether Alabama plays for it all. It certainly looks like that.
Ole Miss and Vanderbilt look like they will both go bowling and get the coveted six-win mark. While both programs are in different situations, this is still an equally impressive mark.
Lastly, I doubt Missouri makes it to a bowl game, but of the other teams on the cusp, you have to fill them out for the SEC to make their automatic bowl tie-ins. Again, I doubt they will make a bowl. We’ll find out.

If Alabama ends up in the BCS National Championship game – then they must have beaten the Georgia Bulldogs to get there. That means there could possibly be LSU, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida (with a loss to FSU) with two losses at seasons end. If that plays out, according to the BCS standings – LSU would drop (with the loss to Alabama), Florida would drop (with the loss to FSU) and (I think) Georgia would drop (after their loss in the SECCG). What two-loss team (assuming they take care of their business) does that leave to take advantage of the other teams attrition? South Carolina MAY be second highest SEC team in the BCS rankings. Could that happen? I am not sure if the BCS polls and computers would count a possible Georgia loss in the SECCG against them.. but it is interesting to think about.
Very interesting to think about. And South Carolina has a tough game against Clemson without Lattimore…which they took care of business last season without him.
Four years in a row, that’s all I’m saying. We got ole Dabo’s number man.
Also remember… If Mississippi State takes care of A&M at home (very possible) they are very likely to only have two losses as well. Those two losses would be to Alabama and LSU. If MSU somehow (long shot) upsets LSU they are looking at one loss (AL) and I think they would deserve the bid for the Sugar Bowl. Its a long shot but something you must think about.
Georgia losing to Alabama won’t hurt Georgia as much. I think Georgia ends up in a BCS bowl. I think South Carolina manhandles Clemson by the way.
I agree that it will take a near-miraculous road win at either Tennessee or A&M (forget Florida, especially since I’m going) for Mizzou to go bowling, and that’s assuming the Tigers can dispose of Syracuse at home. Candidly, the Independence Bowl folks must be rooting against Mizzou as there will likely be a Louisiana-based Sun Belt team available as a fill-in who would probably draw a few more fans than the Tiger faithful who are starting to consider Shreveport a December second home.
Of course, I am hoping Mizzou will pull off at least one amazing road win and hold court at home, and thus extending our string of postseason appearances (a bowl is a bowl, right?) to 8.
I would swap tennessee and ole miss but other than that i think you are spot on. Last week I had florida playing for national champ…. but after seeing bama put a beat down on MSU… i dont think LSU offense will score a point and if UGA plays them in the sec champ, I dont see them being able to score either. Bama is looking to be a fine tuned, well oiled, machine.
You have to put Georgia in the Sugar Bowl at the moment, but if Florida runs the table and beats FSU, all bets are off. I want to see an SEC team play Notre Dame!
You very well might see Notre Dame playing Bama in the BCSCG (although not likely). I would love to see it….
Id say that’s very Likely at this point. Who’s gonna beat ND now? USC? I wouldn’t bank on it. And you know ND will get the nod over anyone else. The Press would have a feild day with that game
I say unlikely because I think Kansas State is about as likely to win out as Notre Dame. In that case, I can see your point about ND getting the nod, even though they sit at #3 now. But yeah – the press would go absolutely NUTS.
Last week UF fans were sure they would beat Bama in ATL and show up in Miami. Did I miss something this weekend?
/sarcasm
LOLZ. I thought UF was better than they played against UGA, but I can’t see anyone actually thinking UF could take down Bama this year. Yes, Bama can be beat, but it will take a lot more than I have yet to see UF muster this year.
just like i thought South Carolina is better than the ways they played against LSU and Florida. its been said before though: “Welcome to the SEC.” any one of these 5 teams would beat Oregon, or Notre Dame. I think K State is on another level and would deserve the shot at Bama if they stay unbeaten. and you gotta give the little guys a bone so there cant be 5 SEC teams in BCS bowls.
Just to understand, I might be going to the compass bowl and I was wondering how to know which team i could predict going. I know it’s no7-8 in the SEC. But how do you know who’s 7-8 in the SEC?
