SEC Football News on Saturday Down South

SEC week 3 predictions

NEW: Discuss this topic in the Google+ community for SEC fans.

Well, I finished 9-2 last weekend, and Kevin finished 8-3, with Arkansas blowing it for everyone in the entire country. How much money did you lose? Thankfully I don’t bet.

On to week three we go:

Louisiana-Monroe at Auburn

Jon: As much as ULM would be a sexy pick for another upset, Auburn wins this football game. This team is in desperation mode, and I’m just not sure ULM has it in them again. Auburn 31, ULM 17.

Kevin: Auburn wins easily in this game. Maybe Auburn actually doesn’t give away every single offensive play so that ULM has to play defense. Auburn 28, ULM 13.

Presbyterian at Vanderbilt

Jon: Vandy and Coach Franklin get their first win of the season, pounding Presbyterian into submission. Vanderbilt 35, Presbyterian 9.

Kevin: Vanderbilt wins 38-7.

#1 Alabama at Arkansas

Jon: This was a much sexier matchup last week than this week. With Tyler Wilson likely not playing, it could get downright ugly for the backups if the offensive line can’t control the line of scrimmage. Alabama 35, Arkansas 13

Kevin: Alabama dominates. Arkansas can’t stop them and they won’t be able to move the ball without Wilson (I don’t think he plays). Alabama 38, Arkansas 6.

Texas A&M at SMU

Jon: TAMU played Florida tough last weekend, and TAMU hasn’t lost to SMU since ‘84. I like the Aggies’ defense to get after the quarterback and deliver a win in this football game. TAMU 29, SMU 14.

Kevin: Aggies roll in this one. TAMU 24, SMU 10.

#18 Florida at #23 Tennessee

Jon: I really think this game will be much closer than what many predict. Tennessee’s explosive offense against Will Muschamp’s defense will be a must-see game. I’m going against the grain and taking Florida because the most talented team hasn’t always won the game. Playing on the road you win by running the ball, defense and special teams. I think Florida has an edge in all three. Gators 27, Tennessee 24

Kevin: I was in attendance the last time the Vols beat the Gators. The infamous Dallas Baker penalty and James Wilhoit 50-yard game-winning field goal game. I think the Vols win this one after losing the last seven in the series. I think Tennessee wins an exciting game likely with a possible game winning field goal again. Tennessee 23, Florida 20.

Western Kentucky at Kentucky

Jon: WKU played UK tough last season and should disrupt the UK OLine because they gave Alabama some fits last week. However, I love UK QB Max Smith right now. Kentucky 31, WKU 30

Kevin: Kentucky wins a somewhat close game 28-21.

Arizona State at Missouri

Jon: ASU is 2-0 to start the season under new coach Todd Graham. There’s a lot of energy in that program right now, and Missouri will have to bring their A-game to pull out the victory. Mizzou lost to Georgia in an emotional game, and I think they have a hangover. ASU 34, Missouri 28

Kevin: I do think that Missouri has a bit of a hangover from Georgia. They start slow, but get back in this game. James Franklin makes some plays in the second half and wins a close, tough game. Missouri 27, ASU 24.

UAB at South Carolina

Jon: South Carolina made a statement last week without Connor Shaw. He will be iffy at best to play in this game, and Dylan Thompson might get another chance to be ‘the man’. USC 34, UAB 14

Kevin: South Carolina takes care of business against UAB and wins 35-13.

Mississippi State at Troy

Jon: I love this Mississippi State team right now, and I don’t think they overlook this road game. MSU 31, Troy 13.

Kevin: The Bulldogs are a 16.5 favorite, and I’m going to say that they cover. MSU 33, Troy 14.

FAU at #7 Georgia

Jon: UGA will club the baby seal known as FAU at home. Georgia 48, FAU 10

Kevin: Georgia wins a lot to a little.

Idaho at #3 LSU

Jon: LSU big. That’s all I got. LSU 48, Idaho 3

Kevin: LSU covers the massive 42 point spread. LSU 51, Idaho 3.

#14 Texas at Ole Miss

Jon: As much as I want Ole Miss to eek out a victory any way possible, they are just too reliant on QB Bo Wallace. I think Texas goes on the road to get the victory. Texas 31, Ole Miss 24

Kevin: Ole Miss has had a nice start, but I think it ends this week.  I say that Texas wins easy and covers a ten point spread. Texas 31, Ole Miss 17.

  1. I got a prediction for you… the Tide will roll, son.

  2. I think there are some pissed off hogs in fayetteville that will come out fighting in the first half. Bama will win it in the 2nd half but not quite enough to cover the spread. Bama 31-ARK-20

UF will miss Jenkins and Riggs on passing downs but has enough depth to stay close. My wildcard is the health of Gillislee. If his groin holds up and they can control the clock and keep those 103k orange people quiet they have a shot. But thats a lot of ifs so I’m pickin the Vols to escape a close one 24-20.

I got Mizzou, A&M, Aubie, Vandy, UGA, LSU, Miss State, UK, and SC all winning and drumroll please………OLE MISS IN THE UPSET! (fat chance but I think theyre due)

  3. God, I hope it doesn’t come down to a field goal attempt to win the game for Tennessee. Haven’t had a decent kicker in years. We upset Alabama three years ago if we had. New kicker this week, but I’m not terribly optimistic about him. If we need a game-winner then we best hope it’s Bray’s arm we need to rely on.

    • Your dream came true! It didn’t come down to a field goal! and came down to Florida shutting everyone up with one of the best performances by a college team of the year. I hated this game. Vols looked so good that first half, but then…nada.

  4. Jon – I understand that you don’t think Ole Miss will beat Texas, but at least give a reason that makes sense – you say you pick Texas because the SEC’s #1 rushing offense relies too much on their QB. What?

  5. Why is there no #8 next to S.Carolina??? Humm ?*%$##@!#$% typical! I cannot wait untill I love this site & the SEC but enoughs enough!! UGA STRUGGLED ,the cocks should be #6 next week with S.Cal’s loss! I know UT it down after losing to FLA. But at least the jerk Kiffin got beat! :):) Spurrier’s 200th win ! Only 4 active coaches can say that! How bout some props here???!!! Biased ? Later….

  6. Place a period after untill . Excuse my lack of proofreading! LOL.

  7. Tennessee started out good, but then when Florida went up by 7……they just seemed to give up.
