US Presswire - Will Muschamp

Florida-Texas A&M didn’t sound like such a sexy matchup when looking at recent history of both programs. This game wouldn’t have even been a conceivable game a few years ago.

But thanks to expansion, conference records will be on the line in week two.

Anticipation is mounting for TAMU’s week two SEC opener and home opener when they host the Gators in College Station.

Will Muschamp and Kevin Sumlin are adding to that anticipation with recent shots of child-like jabs towards each other. You just have to chuckle.

Undoubtedly, Muschamp is getting more questions about Texas A&M and Missouri than anything else in his booster speeches to Gator fans recently. It’s almost like Missouri and TAMU are aliens invading on foreign territory.

A couple of weeks ago at a Gator Gathering in Lakeland, Florida, Muschamp was asked about TAMU and having to play the Aggies in College Station.

“You ever been to College Station?” Muschamp asked. “It’ll be the only time you go.”

The Florida crowd loved that, laughing while presumably clutching their jorts.

Muschamp has coached at Kyle Field before…as a Longhorn of course. His defense allowed 532 yards of total offense, including a four-touchdown performance from former Aggies QB Jerrod Johnson.

It didn’t take long for Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin to fire back, either.

“He needs to worry about his own team,” Sumlin said.

Granted, this isn’t the Lane Kiffin-Urban Meyer off-season feud from a couple years ago. It’s nothing like that.

This is nothing more than Muschamp rallying his boosters before Sumlin has barely even finished his first cup of coffee as the Aggies head coach.

The facts are the facts. This is a big game. The Aggies will be playing their first SEC game and first SEC home game ever. This is history.

Both programs are coming off of 7-6 seasons and will square off in week two on September 8th.

  1. Coach Sumlin just needs to let his players do the talking. Don’t get into verbal spats with these coaches through the media. Next thing you know some writer will label the angry negro coach.

  2. What the heck does race have to do with it??
