Brian VanGorder’s defense is struggling to say the least. They’re giving up 435.5 yards per game and are on track to break last season’s record for the worst single-season defense in Auburn history. Yes, things are that good on the Plains.
VanGorder had some interesting comments on Saturday. To be fair, there’s really nothing you can say considering Auburn’s performance this year, so we’ll give him that.
“We’re not built. The defense is not built with size, strength and power right now,” VanGorder said. “That becomes obvious against teams like Georgia, the first game with Clemson. It shows up. Players know. We talk about it.”
Asked whether guys have lost some of their edge since week one, VanGorder acknowledged it’s a plausible theory.
“I think that’s kind of natural when you’re having the kind of season that we’re having,” VanGorder said. “But not to a degree where it’s concerning to me. Bottom line is you work hard and you hope some good things happen and you hope players make a play here or there. We’ve not been able to do that this year…”
Chizik didn’t have much else to add to VanGorder’s comments:
“I don’t really know how I interpret that,” Chizik said. “I think that there’s some obviously some positions that we feel like we need to upgrade in terms of productivity, but other than that, I’m not really sure exactly what all that means. We can always be bigger, we can always be stronger.”
Indeed, Gene.

Pay no attention to the man behind the upper lip hair.
Ba Haha…BVG is EPIC
I nominate this for SDS Comment of the Day.
Sorry, but when I read VanGorder’s remarks, all I hear in my head is “Back in ’82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin 1/4 mile.”
What puzzles me about VanGorder is his haircut. He looks like a 70′s porn star.
Speak to the Stache! Cause the Stache laughs at your sheer jealousy of not having hair as amazing this!
Reminds me of McConahey in Dazed and Confused: “That’s what I love about these high school girls, man…..I get older, but they stay the same age!”
Never fear, I, VanGorder’s Stache will take the field this Saturday at the defensive line with my dentures playing at the linebacker postion and my immaculate hair playing at both cornerback and saftey positions, and I will single-handedly gets us ten more wins in the next two weeks and back into the SEC and national championship! All-in!
I just hope we hear more from the Bro Stache on latter threads…With some help from BVG’s tight ass coaching shorts…which are always on the “Hot Seat” baby! Aaaaahhhh yeah!
