Cotton Bowl ratings surge; Aggies should get great TV slots in 2013

NCAA Football: Cotton Bowl-Texas A&M vs Oklahoma

More fans watched the Texas A&M vs Oklahoma Cotton Bowl on Friday night than both the Sugar and Orange Bowls. The game did a 7.5 rating on Fox with nearly 11 million viewers. It’s the highest rated Cotton Bowl for Fox.

The attractive matchup between the Aggies and Sooners was expected to do well, but Johnny Manziel himself is also a major part of the equation. The recent Heisman winner is electric on the field and likable off the field.

As 2012 comes to a close, Manziel and the Aggies will be one of the hottest teams entering the 2013 season. They will likely have a high preseason ranking, and the hype will start immediately whether or not Manziel can repeat his 2012 performance and maybe even grab another Heisman trophy.

The Aggies will likely get some premiere television slots both on ESPN and CBS. In 2012, the Aggies had 3 games start in the 11:00am hour. The public knows Johnny Football know and will demand to watch him on television.

It starts early too as the Alabama Crimson Tide visit College Station on September 14th for the week 3 matchup. An ESPN College GameDay appearance and prime time slot should be a lock. Other notable games are at Arkansas on September 28th and at LSU on Nov 23rd.

The Aggies draw Missouri and Vandy out of the east which could setup the Aggies to make a real run at winning the SEC West.

Manziel Mania is in the early innings. In case you missed the performance, watch the full highlight reel of Manziel during the Cotton Bowl here.

  • Texas AM is the new powerhouse in the SEC west, and the the whole nation for that matter. Get used to it, Bama and LSU fans, Aggies going to destroy you guys next season.

    • Are you joking? Bama will be much stronger on both sides of the ball and A&M will be replacing a lot. Don’t get me wrong, I totally respect what they have going for them but they aren’t taking the crown yet.

They have impressed me and I hope to continue to see great things from them. I hope us LSU and the Aggies rule the SEC for years but as long as we have Saban we are going to be competitive with anyone.
