NFL scout compares Johnny Manziel to Joe Montana

In a little under two weeks, we’ll likely know whether Johnny Manziel will officially head to the NFL or return for his junior season in College Station.

Manziel is projected to be a first-round pick in this mock draft, as well as many others, but one NFL scout recently likened him to former NFL great and four-time Super Bowl Champion Joe Montana, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“He reminds me a little bit of (Joe) Montana,” one scout said. “Fluid, and even though he’s off-balance he can get the ball out. He’s a smaller guy but he has big hands for a little guy. He’s fun to watch.”

Manziel has been compared to Doug Flutie and Russell Wilson, among others, and now he’s being compared to one of the best quarterbacks of all time in Montana.

Like his dual-threat predecessors, Manziel’s draft stock and position will be up for debate all through the NFL Combine and leading up to the NFL Draft, and scouts either love him or hate him as a next-level prospect. There is no in between.

Manziel says he ‘thinks he’s ready for the NFL’, but he has yet to make it official. There were reports of Manziel already having signed with Select Sports Group, a Houston-based sports agency, while there’s also been reports of Manziel not submitting NFL Draft evaluations.
