Malzahn on Texas speculation: ‘I’m a good fit for Auburn’

Gus Malzahn’s name continually pops up in the Texas head coaching search. Malzahn is said to be one of four SEC coaches on the wanted list.

Malzahn was again asked about the possibility if Texas comes calling, and he responded that he’s a good fit for Auburn and ‘tickled to death’ to be the Tigers’ coach, via

“I’m a good fit for Auburn Tigers. That’s why I signed a contract the day before the SEC Championship. Like I said before, I’m tickled to death to be here,” said Auburn’s coach.

Malzahn’s new $3.85 million per year deal with Auburn came before the SEC Championship, and it’s not believed he has signed the full contract, just a letter of agreement.

Even if Texas comes calling, there will likely be some hesitancy on his part, because it would be his fourth job in four years, and his resume would scream short stops everywhere he’s been. Malzahn is the architect of the biggest turnaround in college football and coaches one of the hottest stretch teams in the country.

An earlier SI report citing a personal source called Texas Malzahn’s ‘dream job’. Winning the Big 12 would be a whole lot easier than winning even his own division year after year.
