Hugh Freeze and the Rebels could land country’s top recruiting class

NEW: Follow on facebook -

Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss’ recruiting has been incredible, and it’s becoming increasingly obvious that it will only get better. And finishing with the top overall class in the country is becoming more and more realistic.

What Hugh Freeze did on the field has everyone believing in him and the future of Ole Miss football, even the top recruits in the country.

The Rebels currently have 23 commitments and the #12 class overall, according to 247Sports’ Composite Team Rankings.

And now, it looks as if the top offensive line prospect in the country in Laremy Tunsil will be a Rebel on signing day, too.

Obviously, things change daily in recruiting, but Ole Miss is a big favorite to land Tunsil with just five days left.

Look at the star power that’s currently committed:

  • Lavon Hooks, DT:  #1 JUCO player in the country and top defensive tackle.
  • Elijah Daniel, DE:  #49 player overall, #6 best defensive end, but grades are a concern.
  • Laquon Treadwell, WR:  #14 player in the country and the nation’s top wide receiver.
  • Kailo Moore, RB:  #154 best prospect in the country and the #7 best all-purpose back.
  • Jarran Reed, DT:  #39 best JUCO player and #7 best JUCO defensive tackle.

But it’s not necessarily who they have, but rather who they will likely finish with:

  • #1 Robert Nkemdiche, DE:  Nation’s top player overall and top defensive end in the country.
  • #4 Laremy Tunsil, OT:  Nation’s top offensive lineman and #4 player overall.
  • #18 Chris Jones, DE:  Jones is the #2 ranked defensive end in the country behind Nkemdiche and could flip to Ole Miss on signing day. He took a last second visit to Oxford last weekend.
  • #25 Tonny Conner, DB:  Conner has been a heavy Ole Miss lean for quite some time, and he will likely be a Rebel on signing day.  He’s the #5 best safety prospect in the country.
  • #140 Austin Golson, OT:  Golson decommitted from FSU, and he will likely be in the Ole Miss class on signing day. He’s the #8 offensive tackle in the ‘13 class.

Nkemdiche, Jones and Tunsil are ranked #1, #2 and #3 in 247Sports player rankings.

Recruiting is all about momentum, and Ole Miss and Hugh Freeze seem to have every single bit of it.

We’ll call him Mr. Freeze – the Ice Man, because he’s not only bringing home a top-five class to Oxford, he could land the nation’s top class in just his first full year of recruiting.

  1. Go to hell ole miss….

  2. About as clever of a comment as you’d expect from someone with the handle “BenDover”

  3. This Ole Miss class is going to be something to watch. At least the West has to deal with them, and not the East over the next few years. I like Hugh Freeze..

  4. Hotty Toddy!!!!!!!!!! Ole Miss is shock the world & gonna keep the egg bowl streak going.

At the end of the day they are still Ole Miss. I do think this class will propel them past Miss St. In the west.

  6. This is a little suspicious. They have been bad for several years. To go from the bottom of the SEC to the top recruiting class in the country in just 2 years. They may have done nothing wrong, but it just seems a little quick.
