James Franklin tabs freshman QB Patton Robinette the starter Saturday against Texas A&M because of Austyn Carta-Samuels’ ankle injury he suffered against Georgia last week, via the Tennessean.com.
“Austyn is out and Patton is our starter until we feel like there is a chance where Austyn may be able to come back later in the season,” Vanderbilt head coachJames Franklin said. Franklin also said Carta-Samiels, a senior, was seeking a second opinion on his injury, but remains hopeful he will be able to return to the field before the end of the season.
“I was told Austyn was getting a second opinion, and I didn’t have the information (Wednesday) night,” Franklin said. “I’m not going to get into the details or specifics of the injury because I don’t do that.”
Carta-Samuels has been good all year for the Dores, and they’ll miss his leadership presence on offense, along with his passing ability. Robinette replaced ACS last week, and he completed 9 of 15 passes for 107 yards with one INT while also adding one rushing TD.
Robinette may be a better runner than Carta-Samuels, which may bode well against Texas A&M’s defense Saturday, but it will be tough for any freshman to stroll into Kyle Field and deliver a victory.
