SEC coaching carousel update; NFL dipping into the SEC

NEW: Follow on facebook -

Just when you think the SEC coaching staffs are settled, complete and ready to get to work in the offseason, it gets all crazy again. We published all the coaching changes three days ago, and there are already more changes since then.

All the coaches’ names are highlighted, and you can check each coach’s history via CoachingRoots.com.

Let’s get caught up:

Alabama

  • Defensive Coordinator Kirby Smart has been linked to the Philadelphia Eagles for the same position. It looks as if Chip Kelly wants to dip into college to hire his coordinator.

Arkansas

  • Bret Bielema had his staff pretty much lined out until his wide receivers coach George McDonald resigned and took a promotion to be Syracuse’s offensive coordinator.
  • Bielema hired new tight ends coach Barry Lunney, Jr. this week.

Florida

  • Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn accepted an offer from the Seattle Seahawks for the same position. Quinn was a solid coordinator but an even better defensive line coach.
  • Florida promoted linebackers coach and special teams coordinator – DJ Durkin to replace Quinn.
  • Will Muschamp now needs to fill the special teams coordinator and another defensive line assistant to complete his staff.

Georgia

  • Like Kirby Smart at Bama, Todd Grantham has been linked to Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator position.

  1. If Grantham leaves it’s really going to hurt Georgia. I don’t think he will though.

  2. I am sure they will be coming after Lorenzo Ward in another year or two.
